Mary Orton Scudellari’s Dream Baby Registry is Traditional, Modern, and “Consistent to a Fault”

By Shayna Seid

What makes the perfect baby registry? Our Dream Baby Registry series answers just that, providing an endless source of inspiration for those putting together their own Over The Moon Baby Registry. With this in mind, we enlisted the help of some of our most stylish and in-the-know friends—whether they’re already proud parents or still awaiting the arrival of a little one. Take a look at some of our favorite registries, from editors and stylists to influencers and beyond. Your dream registry is just a few clicks away.

As one of her 700K and counting followers, we are longtime fans of Mary Orton Scudellari‘s relatable content, humor and wit, thoughtfully curated aesthetic, and accessible fashion tips. Seriously, she’s taught over half a million people how to properly wear a turtleneck. . . Multi-talented and multi-hyphenate, she also balances her Memorandum blog, collaborations with our favorite brands like Addison Bay, entrepreneurial investments and ventures like her luxury baseball cap line CHORD, with her ubiquitous social media presence, in addition to being a mother of three precious little girls. Suffice to say that in maintaining all of these roles, Mary wears many CHORD hats. . .

And now, Mary and her husband, Penny Jar Capital co-founder and managing partner Rich Scudellari, are anticipating the arrival of their fourth baby, as announced on her account to the tune of a Celine Dion song. “We are hoping the little one arrives in the next few weeks, or I’m going to start charging rent!” Mary jokes. “In terms of gender and name, we’re keeping things a surprise, but we’ve always stuck with classic family names, so that’s definitely the plan for baby number four!”

As a mom of three already, Mary has her Dream Baby Registry curation process practically down to a science. “At this point, I’ve tried nearly everything short of hand-looming my own burp cloths,” she says. “For this list, I focused on things that I know I’ll either (a) actually use on a daily basis, or (b) cherish forever—like the personalized keepsakes that mark baby’s arrival and serve as physical proof that I once had both free time and sentimentality.”

Mary says the baby’s room and wardrobe aesthetic is “consistent to a fault.” She explains, “I like to keep things traditional with a modern twist—think heirloom vibes without the musty attic energy. When it comes to wardrobe, I love dressing my children like children! I know I sound like a 90-year-old woman when I say that, but I’m a sucker for smocked dresses, peter pan collars, and knee socks.” She clarifies further, “If it would confuse a time traveler from the Eisenhower era, I probably won’t put it on my baby—except, of course, for things like disposable diapers and zipper onesies for those middle-of-the-night changes. I’m not completely deranged!”

Must-haves for her Dream Baby Registry include perennial favorites that she used with all of her children: “The BÉABA Babycook for introducing solids; the Zafferano cordless touch lights for late night feedings; and the Frida Baby Booty Brush, which—despite the unfortunate name—is worth its weight in gold,” she shares. Mary also made room for special keepsakes like the Palaka Step Stool and the Tricia Lowenfield Baby’s First Holiday Ornament, which she notes “will destroy me emotionally the second they start applying to colleges.”

With her experience and expertise in crafting the ideal Baby Registry, we asked what advice she has for parents-to-be making their own for the first time. “Don’t stress!” she assures. “You don’t need 97% of what the internet tells you to buy. A wipe warmer is not an essential, it’s a gateway drug to insanity. I will die on this hill.”

Lastly, Mary imparts even more pearls of wisdom about becoming a parent. “Yes, it’s hard and messy and sleep-depriving and oddly sticky for reasons you’d rather not investigate. Yes, we all love to complain about the chaos on social media—because humor helps and the chaos is real. But beneath the mess and the memes is something extraordinary: a deep, fierce joy and a love so staggering—it redefines your entire sense of purpose. Nothing has ever asked more of me—or given more back. We often see posts about the chaos, the clutter, the caffeine. But it’s only because words fail when we try to describe the good stuff—the quiet moments, the firsts, the ordinary miracles that reframe everything.”

She adds, “Motherhood is the most wonderful, profound, heart-exploding blessing of my life.” Truer words have never been spoken, and we couldn’t put it more perfectly ourselves. Now, discover Mary Orton’s curation of practical and fashionable baby necessities because if there’s anyone who can make spit-up and late-night diaper changes seem somewhat luxurious, it’d be her.
