Makeup Inspired by the HBO Show Euphoria That’s Meant for The Brides of The Future

By Arden Fanning Andrews

“I absolutely love how we can express ourselves so freely with makeup in any occasion right now!” enthuses Brit-born makeup artist Omayma Ramzy, as I chat with her about the recent Euphoria-mania that’s suddenly turned day-to-night glitters and neons into a mainstream beauty norm. “It is our time,” she says. Which is true. For some of us, wearing say, a shock of electric blue mascara and holographic glitter during formal vows was a natural choice free of HBO’s influence. Now—thanks to the hit teen drama, which stars Zendaya and follows a group of high school students through their experiences of sex, drugs, friendships, love, and trauma—it’s something we can only expect to see more of as expressionistic beauty moves continue to become more widely accepted. And why not? What’s the harm in having a little fun again after seasons and seasons of no-makeup makeup and garish contouring tricks reigned supreme?

“Whether it’s before, down the aisle, or at the after-party, I think throwing some Euphoria down is such a beautiful and simple way to raise the bar and set your wedding apart from the norm,” says Ramzy. And if there’s fear in dating your pictures to such a specific moment in time, either let it go or be true to your instincts and maybe just try something subtle at the after-party. A feather-light dusting of a favorite hue in Anastasias Limited-Edition Norvina Glitter collection could be a highlighter alternative that feels a bit dreamy, or maybe just a coat of Guerlain’s Rouge G Customizable Lipstick in No 999 over a more traditional shade for a strobey, iridescent top-up. “Some shimmer, sparkle, and color will add to the story of your beauty and give that wow factor,” she agrees. “If not now, then when is it time to have an incredible makeup look? The day is all yours!”

And for those that need a bit of hand holding into the great unknown of no-rules makeup, Ramzy shares her favorite ways to apply, celebrate, and actually party with the below:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Limited-Edition Norvina Glitter Launch Edition

“The ways to use glitter are really limitless. Whether it’s on your nails with a varnish holding them in place, on your cheeks, or even used as a beauty mark with just one or two. I love this Norvina Glitter Collection from Anastasia Beverly Hills. Even just in the inner corner of your eye, glitter is a super fun and playful way to make your makeup look make a statement. For loose glitter, you can use a glitter adhesive like this one from the kit, or if you are just setting a couple of their star-shaped pieces, a lash glue will work great too.”

Fenty Beauty Limited-Edition Liquid Diamond Bomb Glitter Highlighter

“Talk about incredible! It’s so easy to apply, and because it’s a liquid roller you don’t have to worry about it getting on your beautiful dress, either. Add it to your collar bones, cheekbones and anywhere else you want some sparkle. If you have a shorter party dress for after the ceremony, add some to your shins and thighs for some leg glow!

The beauty of this product’s iridescence is that it’ll give just a glint of twinkle and catch people’s eye in a different light without overpowering your look.”

NARS Limited-Edition Queen of The Night Eyeshadow Palette

“This palette is so beautiful! I absolutely love the payoff with these NARS shadows. They go on effortlessly, and stay the whole day. The duo chrome (bottom right) has gorgeous blues and purples, or a cheeky ‘something blue’ could be a lower lash line with the top left blue shadow.

I’m loving using colors in unexpected ways, as seen in Christian Siriano’s SS20 RTW collection using a bold pink in the temples as a fun way instead of blush, with a cool pink and cool blue to switch it all up.”

YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils in Extreme Blue

“I think a colored mascara is one of the simplest ways to create an incredibly striking look. I really love building up the color so it has a ‘painted-on lashes’ feel. Use a lash primer first like Urban Decay’s Subversion to create a base that will cancel out some of the natural lash color of your own and really pop the color you want!

Ever since I can remember I have always found colored mascaras mesmerizing, and I think these are perfect for any wedding. Use it on its own or with a matching gel winged liner to enhance the look further!”

Guerlain Rouge G Customizable Lipstick in N°999

“This stunning lip sheer is so subtle, but still will glisten so beautifully. Designing a Euphoria makeup look might feel like ‘just throw glitter and rhinestones on top’ but I think a lot of the beauty comes from balance. Having a statement eye with a sheer lip like this makes every step of your makeup part of the same look, but without letting the lips overpower other features.”

Make Up For Ever Star Lit Diamond Powder in Champagne

“Use it on the inner corner of your eyes, but don’t stop there! Use it on the cupids bow of your lip, or even mix with a little clear gloss to make a beautiful shimmery lip glow. I also like to take glitter powders and making a striking metallic liner by mixing in some Duraline from Inglot that transforms any powder to a liner with just a couple of drops.”

Smith & Cult Glitter Shot + Glitterbaby

“Smith and Cult have these INCREDIBLE glitter shots. They are so easy to take a swipe for over your already existing look for a super quick ‘bump up’ and to add some sparkle!!

Their metallic shift eye shadows are beautiful too- they can be used on their own or as a base—a little will go a long way! These are fantastic for an easy “smokey” glittered eye too. They will darken a little when you use them and add depth and definition quite magically to your eye. The glitter element is so beautiful, and it won’t budge!”

Winky Lux In The Stars Lip Oil

“I love everything Winky Lux! This hi-shine vitamin E oil will keep your lips super hydrated and glossy without feeling sticky. To me, a clear glossy lip is so beautiful and youthful and I love it.”

Lemonhead LA Spacepaste

Euphoria’s makeup looks have a lot of hints of LemonheadLA’s products. I’ve used their Space Pastes in Catherine Fulmer’s latest collection as a glitter winged liner and all over eye look. It’s definitely a formula that demands the spotlight—you might recognize their Houdini shade from the faces of Beyoncé and Tove Lo.

Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Wanderlust

“This liquid eyeshadow can be used as a base, and a little goes a long way! It’s an incredible iridescent product to use that adds even more glimmer to any look, on its own or under other products.”

Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liner in A-Go-Go

“Yes to a bold lip! These liners don’t budge, so you can kiss to your heart’s content at the altar without fear of it coming off! I absolutely love this bold burnt orange tone—it’s perfect for an autumn wedding.”

Colour Pop Jelly Much Shadow

“Creating bold eye shapes like the ones at Halpern’s latest show can totally transform a face! I would love to see some brides rocking an incredible eye shape in black or even a matte mossy green or bold majourelle blue.

These Jelly Much Shadows are incredible as a shadow base, for painting shapes and for creating really fun makeup looks. They are so versatile, and there’s no real right or wrong way to use them. You can use a liner brush and paint a colorful wing, or even use a fluffy brush to get a shimmery base color.”

Il Makiage Lip Service in Supernova

“I love the Il Makiage Lip Service Hi Shine lip glaze in Supernova—it’s so beautiful! The violet tone makes me think Elven Princess wedding and I love it.”

Kryolan Aquacolor UV-Dayglow Palette

“I’m obsessed with the Marc Jacobs SS20 RTW looks with such beautiful late 60 and 70s inspired shapes and florals. Kryolan’s UV-Dayglow Palette and aquacolors are great for painting fun shapes with your makeup.

Spritz a bit of water on the palette, and using a brush, paint on as sheer or opaque as you like. Because they are water-based colors, you can decide how thick or thin you want them to be, which is great for versatility!”
