Wedding After-Party Makeup That Actually Looks Like A Party

By Arden Fanning Andrews

There’s a palpable shift in the air, and it’s leaning in a very disco direction. After seasons of no-makeup makeup, the runways at Rodarte, Valentino, and Dries Van Noten offered up party faces dusted with glitter and eyes smudged with Crayola-bright colors. Even Glossier, the line that long relied on keeping beauty basic, finally launched Glossier Play, their solution to the sudden demand for color cosmetics and mega doses of sparkle. For an after-party moment that feels of-the-moment once the vows are spoken and the cake is cut, we called upon celebrity makeup artist Omayma Ramzy. Loved by rising starlets like Chloe Bennett and Zelda Williams for fresh twists on camera-ready beauty, Ramzy offers a guide through the looks worth trying after the formal photos have officially wrapped.

“I’m a massive believer that an afterparty look should go out with a bang and not only elevate, but also escalate, as the night goes on. I absolutely love making use of day-to-night tricks and easy products that can layer to create a totally new look.” Ramzy recognizes the appeal of more natural makeup for timeless family photos, but once the attendees are hopping to the final location of the night, it’s worth making time for a high-watt statement. “Once the lights dim low and you’ve changed into your party frock, you might as well add a wow factor in your makeup too!” Below, Ramzy’s tips and products to turn up the volume for the final act.

Disco Kiss

I could recreate this Rodarte look forever after their beautiful runway adaptation gave me endless glitter inspiration. Rather than pairing it with a matching eye, you can just let it pop against fresh skin. I absolutely love LemonHead LA’s new Party Lips Mini-Spacepaste Set, which is perfect for adding onto your pout as a lip topper for a sparkle lip to shine for.

Rodarte Fall 2019
  1. If you need to refresh your complexion coverage after a long day of hugs, It Cosmetics new Confidence in A Foundation works wonders! It will stay put and is totally buildable, too.
  2. Apply a matching lipstick as the first layer based on the glitter shade you choose—Jill Stuart’s Lip Blossom Velvet line has great options for buildable shades that aren’t drying.
  3. Use a Q-tip to press the glitter Spacepaste over the lips.
  4. Clean up any rough edges with a clean Q tip.
  5. Don’t worry if you spill some! Use some sticky tape or even a mini lint roller to gently take away any excess.

Crystal Eyes

Try using crystals to add some sparkle. You can scatter them around your face like Christian Siriano’s latest runway muses, or you can simply apply them around your eye to enhance your existing makeup.

Christian Siriano Fall 2019
  1. Again, prep for an ethereal skin finish. Yensa’s new Skin on Skin BC Foundation is amazing for doing touch ups. It’s light and luminous so it won’t look cakey against the bright crystals.
  2. These gems from Amazon are great because they come with self-adhesive.
  3. Just peel each one off and stick around eyes in a winged shape, or place sparingly on different areas on the face for angelic twinkle.

Metallic Wings

Your wedding night is an incredible time to show off some eye design. Versace’s SS19 show featured an entire color range of graphic metallic eyes, and green is a great shade for so many skin tones.

Versace Spring 2019
  1. To create this softer graphic eye, sketch it out with a soft pencil like Glossier Play’s Colorslides. Pull the line out from the outer corner of your eye toward the tip of your eyebrow (but still leaving space between your brow and the edge of the color), and then draw it inward towards your inner eye.
  2. Using a small shadow brush, press in a metallic eye shadow, like LORAC’s Shine Bright PRO Eyeshadow Palette. Use a lighter color on your eyelid and inner corner and then for the edges go for darker tones to add depth and dimension.
  3. You can get a beautiful clean edge too using a pointy Q-tip and a bit of Caudalie’s Micellar Cleansing Water—use it like an eraser to get the perfect shape!

Smudged-out Color Pop

Grab a few blooms from centerpieces leaving the reception and pin along your hairline for a face-framing accent to pair with a vivid, smudged gaze. Valentino’s FW19 violet eyes are a great runway reference for an easy pop of color that’s dance floor ready.

Valentino Fall 2019
  1. Using a soft eyeshadow like Jouer’s Springtime in Paris Eyeshadow Palette, blend a shade of plum right on top of your existing eye makeup with a brush.
  2. Start soft and add the deepest shade last to smoke it out!
  3. An alternate way add a bright color wash is to smudge out a thick crayon liner. I love C’est Moi’s Visionary Makeup Crayons, they have so many hues!
  4. Line under eyes and on the top lid, then use a stiff brush like NYX’s Dual Fiber Smudger Brush to smoke it out a bit.
  5. You can press a bit of the eye shadow into the liner with a small brush too, and you’ll be able to intensify the look even further!

Jelly Lip Tint

Adding a sheer lip color is an easy way to change up your look if you’ve been attached to your nude lipstick for too long! Roksanda’s latest catwalk proved that a juicy lip stain is all it takes to elevate your party face.

Roksanda Fall 2019
  1. The Winky Lux Glimmer pH Balms are incredible as they adjust to your natural ph, so you’re bound to get a color that suits you no matter what. Just swipe onto bare lips for a personalized pinky shade.
  2. If you’re looking for a glossy finish, layer on Tarte’s new Sugar Rush Lip Sip Vegan Lip Oil in Dragon Fruit or Cherry Slush for a flavored lacquer shine.

Confetti Lids

I love this Dries Van Noten runway look because it’s so easy to do. Perfect for getting ready for the dance floor!

Dries Van Noten Fall 2019
  1. For a more intense glitter, try Lit Cosmetics Glitter Camo.
  2. Take a little on a Q-Tip (a little goes a long way!) and put it on the lid of your eye and underneath just below the iris.
  3. If intense glitter isn’t your thing, you can shimmer and sparkle to any eye look to vamp it up. I love Disco by Roen, Nikki DeRoest’s brand new makeup line. Use disco on your finger and just pat it wherever you want, especially over eye makeup as a “lid topper”.
