Cara Cara Head Designer Dana Greechan is responsible for some of our all-time favorite bridal and ready-to-wear pieces—including our forthcoming exclusive Karene dress, which is coming soon—and she’s a bride-to-be! Dana first met Patrick Menter in college. They fell in love but parted ways after a few years. Serendipitously, they bumped into each other on the Times Square subway platform several years later and reconnected. A while after that, he proposed at her apartment in the West Village, and the two are eagerly awaiting their June wedding in Montauk.
“I’m a true maximal-minimalist,” the Upper East Side–based creative says of her aesthetic. “I tend to gravitate towards a neutral palette and cozy subtle textures but can’t stay away from quirky and unique touches. Working with prints and textiles most days, I’m continually overstimulated, so I like to keep my home as a space to reset and recharge. I also crave color so it’s about finding the right balance and introducing artwork and beautiful moments in unique ways.”
The OTM x Cara Cara Karene dress is a perfect example of Dana’s signature style. “I just love the juxtaposition of the sleek sheath body combined with the whimsical print and billowy sleeve to offer a balance of sophistication and fun!” she exclaims. “I cannot wait to wear it for my shower later this month!”
When decorating her living spaces, Dana prioritizes natural light and open entertaining spaces. “We enjoy DIY weekend projects like installing floating shelves, repainting, resurfacing furniture, or adding a gallery wall,” she explains. “In our last condo, we did our entryway in Fornasetti wallpaper, which created a fun, unexpected moment right as you entered. Pat has a more rustic and modern approach, while I’m a bit more eclectic in my style and push him to take some risks, so merging styles makes a fun combo. We don’t take the process too seriously.”
And who does the designer look to for inspiration? Dana finds Kit Kemp’s use of textiles and color fascinating and often ogles her book, Design Secrets. The bride-to-be also looks to her talented friends for guidance. Her bridesman Sam Masters reimagines spaces in creative ways with thoughtful details. “I love how he repurposes vintage finds and plays with unexpected shapes and finishes,” she shares.
Since Dana already has an OTM Registry, there’s a lot of crossover with her Dream Registry. Candles are a must-have for her, and she particularly loves the smell of the House of Harris x Cara Cara Golden Hour candle. “Whenever I’m sketching designs, cooking, reading, you name it, I light a candle to set the tone for the task at hand,” she says. And as an avid entertainer, Dana loves the Juliska silver serving bowl and wine cooler. “We can’t let our guests drink room temperature champs!”
When it comes to hosting, Dana references Juliska’s tablescape as inspiration (especially from this book) and creates charcuterie boards for guests to snack on while the main course is being prepared. Aerin’s Franco cheese board is a “clean and sleek palette and is perfect for entertaining,” she notes. And for tableware, Bordallo Pinheiro’s iconic green cabbage collection struck her as well as Mrs. Alice’s parrot candle holders.
Dana leaves us with this pearl of wisdom for those creating a wedding registry for the first time: “Ask your girlfriends who have done it for advice. The answer falls somewhere between practical items you need and items you would love to own but wouldn’t necessarily purchase for yourself.”
