Wedding season is fast approaching, which means your clothing budget is about to take a hit. Not only does each Save the Date stuck on your fridge represent a host of wardrobe needs (and yes, they are needs), but with destination weddings still going strong, a suitcase full of cute travel clothes is also a must. Pro Tip: Instead of searching for and buying a number of black tie and cocktail dresses that you’ll likely only wear once or twice before you’ve deemed them “seen” on Instagram and relegated them to the back of your closet, why not try something better for you, your wallet, and the environment?

Enter Nova Octo, a clothing rental company specializing in high-end evening and cocktail attire. Launched last year, Nova Octo wants to help women avoid the trap of the “wear once” dress and bring sustainability to event dressing.

Located in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood, Nova Octo’s lending collection is more high-end than what you might typically find at gown rental brands, as their varied selection features new, vintage, and couture offerings from designers like Carolina Herrera, Johanna Ortiz, Elie Saab, Oscar de la Renta, and Rosie Assoulin.

The way it works is fairly simple: Users go online and search Nova Octo’s archive via size, occasion (there’s a special section for wedding guest attire!), or designer. If you’d rather see the dresses in person, you can also stop by their Tribeca showroom, where they have styling consultants on hand, should you want a professional opinion when it comes to your selects.

Once you find something you like, Nova Octo will make temporary alterations, such as strap or hem length fixes, before delivering the look to your home, where you can keep it for a four day period. (There’s same day delivery in New York, and next day shipping is provided across the U.S.) After you’ve danced the night away in your rental, just put the dress back in the Nova Octo provided box and a courier will come pick it up. Think about it: No more rush delivery fees, no more last-minute trips to the department store, no more wasteful spending.

Nova Octo not only believes in bringing better sustainable practices to the fashion industry—they use eco-friendly dry cleaners and reusable, recyclable packaging—but they also believe in social conscious shopping, too, as they donate 15% of each rental fee to a charitable cause including Robin Hood Foundation, Girl Rising, Elephant Crisis Fund, and Hudson River Park Friends.
