Of Rare Origin’s whimsical, one-of-a-kind aviary earrings have turned us into total bird enthusiasts! They’d been on our radar for a while, but in an effort to try and save some money, we’d resisted snagging a pair. Then co-worker and friend Chloe Malle (pictured above) wore a custom set as a bridesmaid in Canada recently, and we found ourselves having to have some of our own. They just looked so darn sweet!

Leslie Tcheyan and her two daughters, Octavia and TheaGiovannini-Torelli, are the women behind the brand—they’re hilariously known as “boss,” “bossier,” and “babe.” They launched the New York City-based jewelry line in January 2016, and upon first glance, you can see just how rare these handmade pieces truly are. The three work together to create unique designs rooted in shared family memories. Their first offering, The Aviary Collection, is entirely bird themed and inspired by Tcheyan’s late mother’s refusal to waste any food after living through World War II. Instead, she would feed her leftover breakfast scraps to the birds. This love of winged creatures has been inherited and re-created in the most captivating way—and the beautiful pieces have been worn by celebrities like Lily Aldridge and Lupita Nyong’o. Tcheyan and Giovannini-Torelli refer to the incredibly creative jewelry, which is hand-carved from uncommon materials, as “wearable poetry,” and it is just that.
