Another Royal Family Member Is Getting Married—Here’s What You Need to Know

What’s that you said? There’s another royal wedding on the horizon? Phew, we were starting to go through some serious withdrawal. So who’s the lucky bride? That would be Lady Gabriella Windsor, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, and the Queen’s first cousin once removed. (Ok, ok, so it’s only a royal-adjacent wedding, but we’ll take it!) Below, everything you need to know about the Windsor wedding Tatler has already crowned the “society event of the spring,” that is taking place this Saturday, May 18.

The couple

Lady Gabriella Windsor (who goes by Ella) is the 37-year-old daughter of HRH Prince Michael of Kent (who’s the Queen’s first cousin) and the Baroness Marie Christine von Reibnitz. Gabriella works as a Senior Director at Branding Latin America and also occasionally writes for several British publications including London Magazine, The Sunday Telegraph, and The Evening Standard. Her fiancé is Thomas Kingston, who popped the question last August during a trip on the Isle of Sark, off the coast of Normandy. He works in finance and is a director at Devonport Capital, but he’s most notable for briefly dating Pippa Middleton. After breaking up, the two remained friends, and Lady Gabriella and Thomas attended Pippa’s wedding in 2017.

The wedding date and location

Lady Gabriella and Thomas are set to tie the knot on Saturday, May 18 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle; the same location where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank got married last year. But if you’re expecting a grand entrance like those two previous brides, we’re sorry to say, you’re in for some disappointment. According to Tatler, there will be no carriage procession nor will members of the public be invited to witness the ceremony at Windsor Castle. As for the reception, it is said to be taking place at Frogmore House, the same party venue where Meghan and Harry enjoyed their star-studded bash.

The guest list

Even though Lady Gabriella’s father and the Queen are first cousins, QE2 isn’t expected to attend the May nuptials, as it’s still considered “a bit distant” according to the Express. After all, Lady Gabriella is 51st in line of succession to the throne, so not exactly high on the royal totem pole. Even so, other royal family members are expected to come celebrate with the couple, including Princess Eugenie (Gabriella and Thomas attended her wedding last year) and her uncle Lord Frederick Windsor and his wife Sophie Windsor. Pippa Middleton and her husband James Matthews will most likely attend, seeing as the two couples are friends. And as for whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will show up, well that’s just wishful thinking, now isn’t it?
