Content creator Helen Owen and Zack Kalter first met at Los Cabos International Airport. They’d just arrived to film a television commercial for a solar panel backpack company—the first and last commercial they ever shot. The following four days consisted of ATVs on the beach, a sunset cruise, zip lining, beach volleyball, and more activities that fueled lots of flirting and allowed a serious vibe to grow. Once the shoot wrapped, the two flew back to Los Angeles, only to find out they lived 15 minutes away from each other. “I was in Westwood, and he was in Santa Monica,” she explains. “I was finishing up my senior year at UCLA, and we started going on sushi dates and hikes.”
After eight years together, Zack was tasked with disguising a proposal within their non-stop travel itinerary for work. “Despite having so many amazing locations to choose from, I love that instead of going big, performative, over-the-top, which felt expected, he went intimate and intentional and very much unexpected,” Helen says.

His plan was to pop the question in Switzerland, but Helen sweetly last-minute invited her best friend, Whitney, to join them. “She was going through a breakup at the time, and I wanted to get her mind off of it,” Helen explains. He pivoted, and the pair ended up booking a few extra nights at The Chedi Andermatt. Zack informed Helen that the hotel manager wanted to give them a tour of the suites, and Helen put on what she describes as “an unimpressive sweater dress.” He suspiciously suggested she change into something dressier, which she did. On the top floor, the manager opened the door to a suite with candles, flowers, and a table set for two. “Zack pulled the ring out of his pocket—I was beside myself that he’d been able to keep the ring from me when we’re almost never apart, and that this was all really happening! It was pure magic and he pulled off a total surprise. We were served a coursed-out meal, spent the night sipping Champagne and soaking up the moment, and we got to spend the night in the suite!”
Once engaged, the Phlow App founders started planning their destination wedding at Château d’Estoublon in Provence for the end of May. The bride will be wearing a custom Galia Lahav dress, while Over The Moon The List Photographer Ryan Ray captures every moment. And once those details were finalized, Helen got to curating her Over The Moon Dream Registry:
Since the to-be-weds split time between Venice Beach, California, and Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Helen has space to express her “natural, neutral with pops of playful” aesthetic. “I never ever feel like I am ‘finished’ with decorating, which is fun but also means I’m never *not* looking for ways to switch things up and make an area feel new again!” she exclaims.
With Helen’s Dream Registry, she’s ushering in a new chapter for herself and Zack. “I’m searching for those extra special somethings, the ones that signify graduating into the next phase of life—things I have not yet collected, simply because I haven’t yet lived this era of life, like Champagne buckets, crystal martini glasses, or an electric citrus squeezer,” Helen explains. “As I enter this new era, I want to set the stage for years of hosting and homemaking, and what better way to do that than with the often-forgotten items that make special occasions—dinner parties, birthdays, holidays at home—feel elevated.”
She started with practicality: The Plisse Electrc Citrus Squeezer. “To me, a citrus squeezer is an item we use daily, but an electric one means I’m a married woman making margaritas,” Helen smiles. “It’s not a kitchen item I own, but something I want to bring into this next era. Plus, this one happens to be beautiful as well as functional.”
The Puro Martini Glasses were the next addition. “Again, an item for our new era, and a reminder to celebrate life,” Helen shares. “Also, we don’t own martini glasses; therefore, we don’t drink martinis. That needs to change.”
The last item added is an ode to their wedding: The L’Amour Toujours Heart Tray. “It’s a delightful keepsake that will remind us of the summer we were married in a French chateau—less of a practical item, but something that will spark joy for us,” Helen states.
The bride-to-be leaves us with important advice for couples making their own Over The Moon Registries: “In the spirit of never being finished decorating, I think creating a registry is a very special opportunity to curate items that either fill in the gaps in your spaces or replace older items that perhaps have run their course with something fresh and new that can become a token of a new chapter. For example, those old pots and pans you’ve had since college or your cheap wine glasses that ‘do the trick.’ If you aren’t moving into a new home, you may already have the necessities, but when you imagine the energy you want to enter your next era of life with, match your surroundings accordingly. And the there may be items and collectibles that you wouldn’t have necessarily purchased for yourself that will start off this new chapter of your life with fresh energy and inspiration!”
