Our hearts go out to all the couples having to deal with postponing their weddings due to COVID-19. To spread some light and love, we’ve started highlighting engagement stories on our Instagram from those who are dealing with moving their dates. We came across this recent proposal in Central Park, and it immediately lifted our spirits. The city is undoubtedly the epicenter of the crisis, but this sweet moment is a reminder of all that makes it the greatest place on earth.

Jasmine Nola Austin, an account executive at Roberto Coin and podcast host of Jnolaism, and Robert Leaks III, owner of LEAKSFitness Personal Training, connected through their mothers, who worked together for seven years before they introduced their children to each other. “His mother invited our family to his high school graduation party—I did not want to go. We didn’t even say more than a ‘hello’ to each other,” Jasmine remembers. “Next thing I knew, I was asking my mom what his last name was to find him on Facebook, and he was asking his mom if we were related. The following week we went our first date to the movies.”

They continued to see each other throughout college—he was in Virginia and she was in New York City—and after seven years, he organized one of the greatest proposals we’ve ever seen.

“How Robbie pulled this off is still a mystery to me,” Jasmine says. “I am usually not someone that can be surprised,  I ALWAYS find out!” On a cold day in November, he asked her to join him and a new client at the Bethesda Fountain and then for lunch at The Loeb Boathouse in Central Park. “I have never been more angry with him. I was freezing, and my feet were killing me. Once we got to the fountain, he acted like he was lost—which upset me even more.”

“Mirrors” by Justin Timberlake then started to play, which is their song, and young women started to dance. Robbie suggested they should stay and watch, but Jasmine was so cold that she wasn’t into it. “He goes, ‘It’s our song.’ I responded, ‘I don’t care.'”

Robbie jumped into dance with them, and Jasmine still didn’t really realize what was happening. “That’s the reason I have such an annoyed look on my face,” she says. “It didn’t hit me until Robbie waved at me—something he does when he is across the room for me.”

Jasmine started crying as five little girls approached her with roses, followed by Robbie. He got down on one knee, and before he could ask, she said, “Yes!” She then looked around in the crowd and found their family and close friends. Robbie also planned for dinner at Sarabeth’s in the back room to celebrate. “It was the most perfect day.”

The two only chose their date in early spring, so they’re getting married on June 18th of next year—a week before they met 10 years ago! We wish them nothing but health and happiness.
