Two surprising celeb engagements have pretty much left our heads spinning. Between Ariana Grandes engagement to Pete Davidson and Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwins own surprising news—it has been a little difficult to keep track of what happened when . . . and how it all got started. So here, we not only break down the latest in celebrity engagement announcements, but also delve into some of their most noteworthy predecessors. Below, for your reading pleasure, a timeline recap of some of the quickest celebrity engagements ever!

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline

April 2004: Britney Spears is seen out dancing with her then relatively unknown backup dancer Kevin Federline. Rumors circulate that the couple is dating.

June 7, 2004: Spears reportedly proposes to Federline. The proposal takes place on a flight from Ireland to New York, after the couple had been together for approximately three months.

July 12, 2004: Spears and Federline discuss their engagement in a People cover-story.

September 18, 2004: The couple wed in California. The ceremony is a surprise and is later covered by People.

March 30, 2007: A spokesperson for Spears announces that the singer has agreed to a divorce settlement with Federline.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

April 2005: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes confirm that they are dating. (Two months prior, Cruise broke up with actress Penelope Cruz.)

May 22, 2005: Cruise goes on Oprah and memorably jumps on the television hosts couch while excitedly discussing his new relationship. The incident is widely covered.

June 16, 2005: The couple announces their engagement after dating for eight weeks. Cruise proposes to Holmes at a restaurant Paris.

November 18, 2006: One year later, the couple marries in a lavish Italian ceremony in a fifteenth century castle.

June 29, 2012: Holmes files for divorce.

Renée Zellweger and Kenny Chesney

April 29, 2005: Zellweger is seen kissing Chesney at his concert in Jacksonville, Florida.

May 9, 2005: Just nine days after word broke that Zellweger and Chesney were a couple, the duo marry in a ceremony later covered by People.

September 15, 2005: Zellweger files to annul the couples marriage, citing fraud.

August 2009: Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom meet at a party. Kardashian is the host of the party, which was given to celebrate one of Odoms then-Los Angeles Lakers teammates.

Sept. 19, 2009: The couple announce their engagement, after dating for one month.

September 27, 2009: The couple marries in California. After a tumultuous relationship, the couple eventually splits.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand

September 7, 2008: The couple meet at the MTV Video Music Awards.

September 13, 2009: The couple meet again at the VMAs. Soon after, reports surface that they are dating.

October 7, 2009: The couple makes their first public outing together during Paris Fashion Week.

December 31, 2009: On New Years Eve, Brand proposes to Perry at a tiger sanctuary in India. #casual

October 23, 2010: A little over a year later, the couple travels to India again to exchange their vows.

December 31, 2011: Brand files for divorce in California.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

October 31, 2010: Kim Kardashian is seen attending one of Humphries basketball games.

May 18, 2011: Humphries proposes to Kardashian, and gives her a $2 million ring.

Aug. 20, 2011: Kardashian and Humphries marry in California. The wedding is covered in an episode of Keeping Up with The Kardashians.

October 31, 2011: The couple announce their plans to split.

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson

March 2018: Ariana Grande and SNL comedian Pete Davidson meet when the singer appears on an episode of Saturday Night Live. At the time, Grande is dating Mac Miller, and Davidson is dating Larry Davids daughter Cazzie David.

May 30, 2018: Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson announce their relationship on Instagram.

June 11, 2018: Grande and Davidsons engagement news breaks. Grande appears to confirm the news in a series of Tweets.

June 15, 2018: Davidson confirms the engagement on Instagram, and shares a picture in which Grandes engagement ring is featured.

June 20, 2018: Davidson confirms and discusses his engagement on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber

May 2018: Hailey Baldwin confirms that she is dating Justin Bieber in a London Times interview. The pair first met in 2009, and had previously dated.

July 7, 2018: Justin Bieber proposes to Hailey Baldwin in the Bahamas. Reportedly, Bieber had been planning the proposal for a couple of weeks.

July 8, 2018: TMZ reports that Justin Bieber has reportedly proposed to Hailey Baldwin. Later that day, Stephen Baldwin, Haileys father, appears to confirm the news.

July 9, 2018: Justin Bieber confirms his engagement via Instagram. He posts an image of the couple with a notably long caption. Hailey Baldwin appears to confirm the news via Twitter as well.

July 11, 2018: Bieber and Baldwin are seen back in New York City. Haileys ring is clearly visible, and the couple go to get it resized.

July 14, 2018: Bieber posts a steamy pic of he and Hailey kissing in the bathtub. The photo appears sans caption . . . because when your relationship is this hot and heavy, there really are no words. That said, we like this couple, so we’re wishing them all the best and hoping they go the distance!
