With spring approaching, we asked Swarz to share some of the most romantic hotels in Europe for those about to embark on a couple’s getaway in the old continent. From Portugal to Paris, below are her dreamy picks.
Cabanas no Rio – Comporta, Portugal
A romantic hideaway surrounded by the stunning nature of Comporta. With a breathtaking view, Cabanas no Rio is a silent place ideal for honeymooners that enjoy calmness and pure simplicity. Two cabins: one for sleeping in, the other for living. The region is well known for its delicious wines, fresh fish, and beautiful white sandy beaches, making it the perfect destination for a honeymoon.
Mil Estrelles – Banyoles, Spain
Cornellà del Terri, a small Catalan village in the province of Girona, is only two hours away from Barcelona, and there you’ll find the celestial-themed hotel, Mil Estrelles. Sleep under the moonlight in one of their six different bubble rooms, each of them styled in a unique way and named after stars and constellations. Couples also have access to jacuzzi, sauna and flotarium.
Los Enamorados – Ibiza, Spain
Los Enamorados translates into “the lovers,” so couples know right off the bat that they’ve come to the right place. Nestled in the romantic harbour of Portinax, and far, far away from the EDM tourists, you will find this bohemian spot designed by Dutch-French creative duo Pierre Traversier and Rozemarjn de Witte. This lovely hotel is what I like to call a luxe pieds-nu, or a “luxury bare foot” place. The interiors, all inspired by the couple’s trips around the world, will make you want to stay in bed all day: cozy and chic.
The TreeHotel – Lapland, Sweden
In the middle of intact nature, the spectacular TreeHotel offers seven tree houses, all suspended 13 to 20 feet above ground. The definition of hygge, each room is intimate and warm and boasts one of the most magical views in the world. Make sure not to miss the unbeatable sauna, which is also set amongst the trees.
Palazzo Daniele – Puglia, Italy
Housed in a 150-year-old aristocratic house in the quiet village of Gagliano del Capo, Palazzo Daniele is one of Puglia’s best kept secrets. Ideal for creative, design-oriented couples, they also host an annual residency program, which turns bedrooms into artists’ studios.
Hotel Santa Caterina – Amalfi, Italy
Immersed in the gorgeous scenery of the Amalfi Coast, this 19th-century liberty style villa overlooks the everlasting blue of the Mediterranean sea. Grand Hotel Amour – Paris, France
Paris is already considered the city of light and love, so if you’re heading there for your honeymoon, make sure you check in at the Grand Hotel Amour for an extra dose of romanticism in a cool, non-cheesy way. Located in Paris’ 10th arrondissement, the hotel is a celebration of French art and culture, in which graffiti artist and nightlife impresario André Saraiva imagined a new world and a new definition of amour. The hotel brings the feeling of being at an artist’s home, full of unexpected and fun details such as the graphic illustrated carpet in the hallway, funky Ettore Sottsass mirror, and colorful bathroom tiles.
