Over The Moon Head of VIP Alice Lipscomb and Peter Marcuz, an aerospace engineer, first met when he moved to the United States from Toronto and joined her third grade class. The pair were schoolmates through elementary, middle, and high school, and during their sophomore year, they realized they wanted to pursue something more than a friendship.

After nine years together, Peter proposed during Labor Day Weekend in Charleston, while they were vacationing with their brothers. “Throughout college, Peter and I loved going on picnics every Friday night, so he planned a beach picnic for us on Folly Beach and picked up Basic Kitchen,” Alice begins. “He was acting so nervous all day, and when he went to pick up the food, he was flustered and forgot utensils. We ate our dinner with our hands, and after Peter made me wash off my hands in the ocean, I knew something had to be up then. We started walking down the beach a little, and then he spun me around to ‘dance’ and got down on one knee. It was the sweetest moment!”

Alice was living in New York City at the time of her engagement, and when she described her dream wedding to a friend who used to live in The Holy City, she recommended Post House Inn. A month later, the couple made the move to Charleston, and their future wedding venue became their favorite date night spot.

For their autumnal nuptials, Gatherings By Emily took the planning reins, and fellow Over The Moon Bride Claire Hiller was behind the lens for each event. White Ink Calligraphy set the tone with a red and cream invitation suite.

Aesthetically, they nodded to Peter’s Italian roots and played into their fun, upbeat personalities and relationship. “We both cannot sit still. . . ever, so we knew an assigned seated dinner was not for us,” Alice shares. “We both value our friends and family so much and wanted a venue that would feel like a big house party with all of our favorite people celebrating our love.”

As a lot of brides do, Alice ended up choosing a wedding dress that was the complete opposite of what she’d originally pictured. “I wanted backless, no strapless, and not form fitting. I ended up with a corset strapless dress that was fit exactly to my body,” Alice smiles of her Danielle Frankel look. On October 4, 2024, Alice got ready with Sterling Wright and Jami Messuri, who made her feel like the most beautiful version of herself. Then, the bride paired her dress with her mother’s diamond earrings—her “something borrowed”—and a colorful bouquet by Sara York Grimshaw.

At St. Andrews Church, Alice walked down the aisle with her father to meet Peter. “I had nervous jitters all day, and the minute the doors opened and my eyes met Peter’s, every bit of nerves went away,” the bride gushes. “I was fully at peace for the first time all day. I felt so at peace and so loved.” The groom adds, “As soon as I heard the doors, I lost it and actually couldn’t even see her for a few seconds because of the tears in my eyes.”

The couple’s family friend, Rhon Carter, performed the marriage. Just hearing his voice speaking to them at the altar calmed the couple’s nerves. . . well, maybe just the bride’s at first. “The beginning of the ceremony might be the most nervous and emotional I’ve ever been,” Peter recalls. “It was such a full circle moment for Alice and me. We’ve been through so much together, and the thought of her finally becoming my wife made me uncontrollably cry. . . I lost it when I started to read my vows, but as I continued, it got easier. Walking down the aisle was the best moment of my life and something I will never forget.”

“It was the most intimate yet energetic four hours of our lives,” Alice says of the reception at Post House Inn. Dinner featured a delicious cacio e pepe in a cheese wheel and was followed by the cake cutting, when Alice took up the opportunity to smear the Welton’s Tiny Bake Shop cake on her husband’s face. “It was so much more fun than it looks on videos.”

They passed out slices to their loved ones, before Alice changed into Alexandra Pijut’s Stella Dress with Larroudé Ari Pumps—Over The Moon from head-to-toe, of course. “We ran down the stairs and jumped on the dance floor, and the dancing with DJ Jason Wiggz never ended from that point until the wedding was over,” Alice remembers.

For their grand exit, the newlyweds drove off in an old Land Rover and headed for the beach, reminiscing along the way about their whole wedding and how they felt throughout the day. Upon their return to Post House for the night, they found that the hotel had left them the post-nuptials essentials: pasta, cake, and Champagne.
