Three years after meeting on the first day of graduate school, Trym proposed to Janet Lynne at Wildflower Farms in Upstate New York. And once engaged, the couple knew they’d get married in the groom’s home country. “Trym is from the west coast of Norway, and early in our relationship he took me on a roadtrip around the country,” Janet explains. “We stayed at Kviknes and fell in love with Balestrand.”
Once the spring wedding location was narrowed down, the couple hired Amanda Strand to bring their vision to life. Clara Mortensen (with the help of Linn Holm) lensed the whole weekend, while Annabelle’s, InWhiite, and Madison S. Webb Design set the tone with an illustrated invitation suite.
Finding a wedding dress, in comparison, wasn’t as easy, and the bride sought a custom creation. “I wanted to support a New York designer and had previously discovered Victor de Souza through Diana Broussard’s boutique in the West Village,” Janet begins. The two clicked after meeting and decided on a column dress with an overskirt, which she replaced with an obi-inspired belt for dinner.
The bride completed her look with the veil that her grandmother had made for her mother, and Trym’s mother’s pair of earrings was her “something borrowed.” Hairstylist Ina Coucheron gave Janet a romantic bridal beauty look.
On June 1, 2024, the two blessed their marriage in St. Olaf’s, a special church built in the Stave architectural style with florals by Ro & Raff. “Fun fact: St. Olaf’s was the inspiration for Elsa’s coronation in the Disney movie Frozen,” Janet smiles. “We had many family and friends from various corners of the earth and phases of life, all in one tiny room. It was very humbling. We listened to Pernille Molvær Maurstad’s beautiful edition of Adele’s ‘Make You Feel My Love,’ sung in Norwegian. It was the perfect touch as both Norwegian and English-speakers could sing along.”
Following the wedding, the procession to the harbor began. The Strikes kept guests entertained, while the happy couple escaped to take portraits.
After re-joining their guests, the newlyweds shared a first dance to “Your Smiling Face” by James Taylor and cut their cake by Naustdal Dampbakeri under the LAVVOUTLEIE tent. And long after more dancing, the fête continued at Disco Torvund.
