In 2020, Over The Moon The List Planner Jove Meyer matched with Kyle Torrence on Tinder. “Kyle was quarantining with his friends in Connecticut, and I was renovating my home on Fire Island,” Jove recalls. “After a few weeks of chatting, he took the ferry over to meet me and never left.”
After three-and-a-half years together, Kyle was the first to get down on one knee during the holidays in Palm Springs. “Our families were meeting for the very first time, so it never crossed my mind he would propose then,” Jove admits. Little did he know that on the day after Christmas, the wedding planner would become a groom-to-be. The newly engaged couple celebrated at Korakia surrounded by bright La Tige Studio arrangements and friends who had flown down for the occasion. A short while later, Jove romantically counter-proposed to Kyle, a trained opera singer, at The Metropolitan Opera before a performance of Romeo & Juliet.
Their differing styles set the tone for their wedding vision. “Jove is all about modern lines and bright pops of color, while I lean into dark tones,” Kyle shares. The Bowery Hotel—where Jove had worked with clients for more than a decade—offered the perfect canvas to blend their personalities.
For their fashion, the couple worked with stylist Ali Kornhauser on contrasting black and white outfits. Jove wore a custom Wiederhoeft tuxedo adorned with hand-beaded flowers and bows, paired with Jacquemus shoes. “I decided to wear all white, which surprised many people, including me,” he jokes. Kyle looked handsome in a tailored black Tom Ford suit and a Saint Laurent shirt with a subtle tie detail.
After planning more than 200 weddings, it was finally Jove’s turn. “I never thought this moment would be possible for me—a gay boy from a humble, religious background,” Jove continues. “Standing proudly and declaring my love in front of both our families and our closest friends during Pride Month.” Photographer Amber Gress and Over The Moon The List Videographer Modern Love Productions captured every special moment.
On June 21, 2025, guests were welcomed to the ceremony with a live performance of “Grow As You Go” by Broadway actors Gillian Hassert and Maria Failla, accompanied by music director Matthew Stephens on piano and a string quartet. “Our singers finished their song just moments before we reached the altar, and in that pause, it felt like time stood still,” Kyle reflects. “The love was so palpable it nearly knocked the wind out of me,” Jove adds.
The couple stood beneath vibrant chandeliers from Mimosa Floral Design, surrounded by a custom stained glass installation by Bombshell Graphics. “We had color everywhere—it was reminiscent of the water tower near our apartment and the one tattooed on Jove’s arm,” Kyle states. A dear friend of the couple officiated, followed by Darren Styles, owner of Attitude Magazine, who read Essex Hemphill’s powerful 1992 poem “American Wedding.”
Opera singer Katie Travis performed “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” in tribute to their departed loved ones. Then came the vows and a handfasting ceremony. “Our friend—lovingly dubbed Kyle #2 for the day—used three heirloom fabrics to bind our hands and hearts: my mother’s bridal veil, my grandmother’s embroidery, and a keepsake blanket from Jove’s great-grandmother,” Kyle says. With rings exchanged and their community by their sides, they sealed their union with a kiss.
At The Bowery Hotel, guests ascended private steps through a bamboo tunnel—a nod to Jove and Kyle’s first date on Fire Island. “We wanted to take our guests on a journey—a deeply personal, joy-filled exploration of our love story,” Jove explains. “From start to finish, the celebration was my love letter to Kyle and to all of our loved ones who have supported us along the way.”
Since food is such a meaningful part of their relationship, the couple made sure every bite counted. “At cocktail hour, we introduced Caviartainment from Red Oyster—because who doesn’t love a little drama with their caviar?” Jove jokes. “Two fabulous servers floated through the crowd offering caviar bumps and classic blinis with crème fraîche.” The front bar was decorated with oversized and miniature hand-painted florals by their friend Sophia Parker of WifeNYC, who also painted the guest room in their Fire Island home.
The reception transported guests into what Jove dubbed a “European dinner in the clouds,” inspired by their favorite cities: Paris and Sicily. “The dining room, accented with striped linens from Something Vintage Rentals and beautifully lit by Stortz Lighting, was designed to feel like a dream—clouds above, the earth below, and a field of joyful, colorful blooms in between,” Jove says of the space. Each detail was intentional: from the flowers inspired by a date at Giverny, to the hand-shaped shell butter by The Treatery, and the sculptural installation above by Quest Events.
For their first dance, the couple chose “A Moment Like This” by Kelly Clarkson, a song that had appeared on the cover of their invitation by BothNYC. “Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this, so we wanted to be sure to share our first dance to the same song,” Jove explains. Guests joined in singing the lyrics before flooding to celebrate alongside them. The dance floor—transformed into a shimmering disco jungle—was where Jove felt the full joy of the evening. “My favorite part was dancing the night away in my silver crop top from Wiederhoeft.”
After the reception, guests were invited to the after-party, which had been transformed into the couple’s version of Marie’s Crisis—their beloved piano bar. Show tunes filled the room until 2 a.m., as guests belted out songs between bites of chicken nuggets topped with caviar and slices of cheese pizza.
For their honeymoon, Jove and Kyle embarked on a safari to Botswana, staying at both Belmond’s Savute Elephant Lodge and Eagle Island Lodge, followed by a stay at the Mount Nelson in Cape Town and One&Only Gorilla’s Nest in Rwanda.
