Krista Robertson, of the New York City fashion and lifestyle blog Covering the Bases, met Andrew LeRay through work at Major League Baseball—they were in the same department. “He actually trained me on my first day!” she remembers. The two had been dating for five years when he proposed over a Fourth of July weekend.
From the beginning of the planning process, Krista and Andrew knew they wanted to keep their wedding small—just immediate family and a few friends—and they quickly fell in love with the idea of renting a huge house in Nantucket where everyone could stay and they could say their vows in the backyard. Their early September ceremony and dinner would be on Thursday followed by a welcome party for more guests on Friday and a reception on Saturday. Krista planned every aspect of the wedding weekend herself using the island’s classic aesthetic and her day-to-day affinity for blue and white as inspiration. “Fun fact: all the vases, ginger jars, and decor were things from my apartment, so I didn’t really need to buy much,” she admits.
The night before the ceremony, Krista wore a white Vera Wang dress layered under a custom maxi skirt by Katie Fong with their wedding print, by Riley Sheehey, on it for the rehearsal dinner. Andrew also had the design on his socks and tie that evening. The next morning, the bride got ready in a white La Perla silk chemise, the Quinn jacket by Alexandra Grecco, Jennifer Behr’s Julia earrings, and Miu Miu floral-embellished satin mules. Then she changed into her Capri gown by Lela Rose and Stuart Weitzman heels with a crystal “L” clip for the first letter of her new last name.
The groom wore a navy tuxedo and white dinner jacket from The Black Tux with velvet Stubbs & Wootton slippers. And keeping with the blue and white color scheme, bridesmaids were in long white dresses and the moms wore navy. “I always loved the idea of having the girls in white,” Krista says. “I just asked that they find a dress with some kind of texture or detail, so that it would be different than mine.”
When it came to walk down the aisle, there was a minor snafu. Right before the bride’s sister, and maid of honor, processed with her son, the ring bearer, he pulled the string on the pillow holding the rings in place, and they went bouncing in the bushes. “We had to re-set and go back to the beginning. It was all in all a pretty funny and hectic couple minutes,” Krista says. Once everything was back in place, the bride walked down the aisle with her mother to meet her fiancé and father, who married them in a very personal service.
After their first kiss as husband and wife, the reception commenced under a covered porch decorated with string lights. The tablescape was designed by Krista with their wedding print on the tablecloths by Spoonflower. Before everyone sat down to celebrate the happy couple over dinner, the bride made a quick change into a pearl and crystal high-neck dress. The meal ended with cutting their funfetti wedding cake made by the mother-of-the-bride. “She used to be a wedding cake designer,” Krista says. “So it just felt right.” At the end of the night—after indulging in lots of dessert and dancing like crazy—they all ended up spontaneously jumping in the pool. “It was one of the best ways to end the night!”
