It was a wedding that first brought Madeleine Chabot and Tally Thoren together in the summer of 2021. Madeleine was celebrating her cousin’s nuptials—unbeknownst to her, a childhood friend of Tally’s. The two connected instantly, and a year or so later, Tally proposed in the backyard of his childhood home in Connecticut with a view of Holly Pond that had long been a favorite of the Thoren family. The newly engaged couple then made their way to Rye, New York, where Madeleine’s family was waiting to surprise her in celebration.
When it came time to choose a wedding venue, Wychmere Beach Club in Cape Cod felt like an inevitable choice. “The broader Chabot family has been going to the Cape for generations,” Madeline shares. “I grew up with summers on the Cape with my 19 first cousins, and it has only continued to be a place where our ever-growing family of aunts and uncles, in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren continue to gather. Additionally, Harwich, where Wychmere sits right on the ocean, overlooks the harbor where Tally and I have launched endless tuna fishing expeditions with my dad.” Beyond sentimentality, the venue offered the coastal elegance the couple envisioned for their wedding day.
To bring their vision to life, they enlisted planner Jillian Comis of Cape Cod Celebrations and entrusted Pat and Claire Furey of Pat Furey Photography to capture their wedding day. “We absolutely loved working with them!” Madeleine says. “Their detailed planning leading up and lighthearted approach throughout the entire day brought an ease and naturalness that we think really comes through in the beautiful moments they captured.” For their stationery, the couple turned to Tiny Inker, whose designs complemented the wedding’s aesthetic.
“I really wanted to bring the glamour of my fashion experience in New York and Paris but in a way that still respected the ease of Cape Cod,” Madeleine says of her wedding wardrobe. “The color palette for the wedding was a delicate combination of whites, grays, and silvers which was a play on the airy fog and mist of the Cape with the sharp chrome-like reflection of the dark ocean water.” Her line of looks followed suit.
On the morning of August 19, 2023, Madeleine got ready with Amy Strozzi and Stacey Kuehn before stepping into her Vera Wang dress and complementing Amina Muaddi shoes. Nearby, her Javier Osorio dress from Annie’s Ibiza and Chanel sneakers sat laid out for the after-party.
At the head of the Lilacs Cape Cod–adorned aisle, overlooking the Nantucket sound, Madeleine and Tally recited their vows and were married. “The ceremony was officiated by my brother, Ian Chabot, and was filled with a lot of love and a bit of laughter,” the bride recalls. “We both just felt so happy. I remember thinking beforehand that I would feel so much pressure with all those eyes directly on us, but instead, the whole thing just felt so easy surrounded by all these people that we love.”
“The reception was the party we always wanted it to be,” the bride says. Dinner began with a choice between surf and turf or pan-roasted cod. As guests forked their meals, heartfelt toasts filled the room—first from the father of the bride, followed by the best man, Maarten, and the maid of honor, the bride’s sister, Elizabeth.
From there they got right into celebrating. The newlyweds danced to Bruce Springsteen’s “Thunder Road.” “Music was one of our top priorities during the wedding planning process,” Madeleine shares. “We could not have been more thrilled with our NY-based New Orleans-inspired brass band, Hudson Horns. They brought the house down and even let Tally take the stage to sing the final song, ‘Mr. Brightside.’”
Instead of a final encore, the band led everyone to the after-party. Once inside, they joined DJ Steve Fortes, for his hip-hop set. The night ended in the Hydrangea Room, a moment Madeleine calls “one of our highlights,” and the following morning, the newlyweds set off for their honeymoon in Bali.
