“I was in Fort Greene, Brooklyn looking for an apartment and bumped into Lincoln on the street,” Maggie Sloane says of how she reconnected with her future-husband, Lincoln Wheeler. “He lived blocks away from the apartment I saw. I took the apartment.” The pair was first introduced through Maggie’s cousin and his college roommate, and after a year-and-a-half of dating, he proposed in their Brooklyn backyard.
The couple often ended their walks in Fort Greene Park on the same bench, engraved with a Walt Whitman quote: “We were together. I forget the rest.” Lincoln romantically recreated the bench in their backyard. “I returned to find him pretending to meditate on the bench in the wintery depths of February,” Maggie shares. “Then he got on one knee, and I was absolutely blindsided.”
When it came time to plan their wedding, Maggie immediately fell for Troutbeck in Amenia, New York. With its natural beauty as a starting point, the couple leaned into an aesthetic that felt organic and elevated, brought to life with the help of planner Sara Landon Events. On Saturday, June 15, 2024, they gathered family and friends for a celebration that felt both intentional and effortless, with every detail layered seamlessly into the setting.
Fashion played a central role in shaping the day’s look. “I wanted something classic and elegant,” Maggie says. She chose an Oscar de la Renta look that balanced timeless structure with a modern edge. The halter neckline gave her the high-neck silhouette she loved, while the open back kept it light for a June wedding. She paired the look with Stuart Weitzman shoes, later changing into Valentino for the after-party. Lincoln complemented her perfectly in a cream linen suit by P. Johnson, leaning into a relaxed yet polished feel that carried through the entire weekend. Maggie’s sisters, standing by her side, wore custom Markarian dresses that added to the refined but personal tone of the day.
Set in Troutbeck’s garden, the ceremony felt like something out of a storybook. Floral designer Ivie Joy transformed the space with an abundance of colorful, whimsical blooms that contrasted beautifully with the estate’s natural backdrop. “I had a rough idea of the flower plans, but was truly blown away by the visuals,” Maggie says. With Olivia Rae James behind the lens, every detail—from the layered florals to the quiet in-between moments—was captured with a soft, romantic eye.
The ceremony itself was grounded in meaning. Officiated by Maggie’s cousin Michael—the very person who first connected them—it felt full circle. “We both felt surprisingly calm and at peace,” Maggie shares. “It truly felt like it was the two of us up there.” The couple chose to stand alongside their siblings, a subtle but powerful way to honor the people who shaped them most.
As the evening transitioned into the reception, the tone shifted from serene to electric. Guests entered to ABBA, immediately on their feet, napkins in the air. With music by Jordan Kahn Music Company setting the pace, the dance floor never slowed. “It was absolutely electric,” Maggie says—and it only built from there. One of the most memorable moments came when Maggie’s best friend surprised the couple with two Beyoncé performances. “I thought the floorboards were going to break.”
Dinner, catered by Troutbeck, flowed into heartfelt toasts that balanced humor and emotion, followed by a first dance to “As We Go Along” by The Monkees—a song that had quietly soundtracked their early relationship. The emotional high continued through their parent dances, set to Stevie Wonder and Louis Armstrong, before the night closed with a singalong to The Beatles.
But the celebration didn’t end there. The after-party transformed the dining room into a full-scale disco, complete with DJ sets by Sound Keen Events, live sax and drums, and a playlist the couple had curated for over a year. Guests danced for hours, fueled by late-night Shake Shack and the kind of energy that only comes from a room full of people who know the couple best.
Instead of a traditional honeymoon, the two leaned into their shared love of travel. “We didn’t take a honeymoon because we have been traveling nonstop,” Maggie says. Still, they carved out a romantic four-day escape in Paris shortly after the wedding—one that felt perfectly on brand. “Paris will likely continue to be a romantic getaway for us.”
