Marc Jacobs and Char Defrancesco’s Wedding Cake Had Its Own Opening Act

By Patricia Garcia

While many modern couples today are opting for funfetti cakes and donut walls on their wedding day, Marc Jacobs and Char Defrancesco kept things decidedly old-school (and quite grand) when it came time to choose the wedding cake for their big day.

The New York designer and his long-time partner tied the knot on Saturday night at the Grill Room, and while the guest list was certainly one of the most A-list we’ve seen (Gigi and Bella Hadid, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and Lil Kim were among the attendees), perhaps the most impressive thing about their celebration was the five-tiered cake by Ron Ben Israel. Once heralded as the “Manolo Blahnik of wedding cakes” by the New York Times, Israel created a white, multi-tiered confection that was vaguely reminiscent of the magnificent cake Grace Kelly and Prince Ranier served at their Monaco nuptials in 1956.

But with all due respect to the Monaco royals, the Jacobs Defrancesco cake was so extravagant, it even included its own jazz intro, as seen on Israel’s Instagram account.

As for what the cake actually tasted like, the filling and flavors have remained a mystery—for now. Fingers crossed one of the grooms spills the beans soon.
