The LoveShackFancy founder and creative director met real estate owner and developer Todd Cohen through mutual friends; however, she coincidentally went to high school with all three of Todd’s siblings. The New York City-based duo were together for six years before tying the knot in her parents’ backyard in Bridgehampton, nine years ago.
In true LSF-style, The Wedding Library-planned ceremony took place in front of an apple orchard and was held under an antique arbor covered in white English roses. The inspiration for the setting was the south of France meets The Great Gatsby meets Miss Havisham’s mansion in Great Expectations. The aisle was covered in rose petals, leading to the altar, brought to life by florist Lewis Miller Designs. Below, Rebecca shares what trend she wishes was in style when she got married, dress tips for brides-to-be, and the marriage advice she always likes to give.
How did you chose what you wore?
“I wore an incredible perfectly imperfect Monique Lhuillier dress, with a beaded bodice and breathtaking tea stained tulle skirt, which made me want to run through the fields in the rain. Plus, I wore Christian Louboutin heels, with a Monique Lhuillier veil, and Fred Leighton earrings. Todd designed both my engagement and wedding ring. My makeup, done by Tracy Murphy, was kept light and natural with incredible lashes.”
Years later, were there any wardrobe regrets?
“Never. My wedding dress is still one of my favorite pieces I have ever worn. I never had it dry cleaned after my wedding; it’s still hanging in my closet with a grass-stained hem.”
What’s one recent trend that you wish had been around when you got married?
“Bows!!!”
Any style or dress tips you’d give a bride-to-be?
“Wear something you feel like yourself in, and make sure it is your best dancing partner. You absolutely have to give each dress a ‘dance test,’ to ensure it can move with you all night. After my ceremony, I had my maid of honor and wedding planner cut out the lining in my dress, so it was breezy and easier to move in.”
What was your favorite part of the ceremony?
“My favorite part was walking from the home I grew up in, with my parents, through my backyard to Todd standing at the altar.”
Did anything unexpected happen?
“Halfway through the ceremony, a slight drizzle began. We had vetoed our rain plan, so guests were given parasols and the rain added magic to the day. We got married in June instead of August, hoping to beat the August heat, but that week there was a heat wave, and it reached record-breaking high temperatures. So, despite my best efforts, my hair was still frizzy!”
What song did you dance your first dance to?
“Otis Redding’s ‘That’s How Strong My Love Is.’”
What’s one piece of marriage advice you like to give out?
“Compromise and flowers, lots and lots of flowers!”
