While recent circumstances have resulted in an unprecedented number of postponed weddings, many couples are also tying the knot as planned with immediate family and in more intimate ceremonies. For some, it is a complete rearrangement of plans, while for others it’s an intimate service to commemorate their original date, while they replan the big nuptial for the following year. Whether it’s a celebration post marriage license pick-up with close friends and family, or a small courthouse ceremony followed by a garden party outdoors, here are 8 easy steps to follow when planning a party in your very own backyard.

TABLETOP

The best part about a backyard wedding? The festive tablescape! Pick up some in-season flowers from your local florist, or order a few different bouquets online that you can DIY from home. Try rentable tablescapes such as Social Studies and Soirée Everyday to dress up the table or splurge on a new set of dinner plates that you’ve been eyeing like this Remy Renzullo x Carolina Irvin & Daughters collaboration.

GETTING READY

Instead of a robe, try a slinky slip dress that you can rewear as a beach coverup post wedding. A simple hair accessory to keep your hair off of your face during makeup will also make a chic photo op and add something blue to your special day with a set of blue lingerie.

FLOWER GIRLS

Forget itchy lacey frocks and uncomfortable mary janes when it comes to flower girls. A summery linen dress paired with some liberty print Bonpoint sandals will ensure the little ones are happy and comfortable all day long while still looking their cutest self.

BRIDESMAIDS

For the special ladies in your life, give them a color scheme to ensure everyone looks cohesive in photos. No need for matching silk bridesmaids dresses or shoes for that matter, ask them to show off their own personalities by encouraging them to accessories to their liking.

THE DETAILS

Just because you’ve downsized your wedding doesn’t mean you should forget the special details. From the perfect pink polish to a garter belt for some fun tradition–find ways to make the day meaningful for you and the guests.

THE BRIDE

For the bride, any white dress will do! Forget big gowns and stilettos and instead try a classic silhouette that you can wear again. Pair with some understated pearls and some satin wedges that still feel dressed up but won’t sink into the grass.

THE GROOM

For the groom, try a more casual linen suit instead of a stuffy tux or a black suit for that matter. Dress it up with a pair of brown loafers, and add a touch of color with a fun pocket square. Don’t forget some cool shades to go with the look.

PARTY FAVORS

Say thank you to close friends and family by having some fun party favors. Give everyone a disposable camera when they arrive and you’ll end up with some candid photos taken by the entire party. Travelling to and from the courthouse? Surprise your guests with personalized reusable masks to ensure the party is staying safe!
