Katy McCormick’s sister, ASHA Founder Ashley McCormick, first met tennis pro Julian Bradley at the Field Club of Greenwich and knew Katy had to meet him. “While my initial reaction was to roll my eyes at her older sister tendencies, I ended up taking a few lessons with him,” Katy smiles.
After one-year-and-a-half together, Julian got down on one knee on the ‘Sconcet Bluff in Nantucket. Funny story: The proposal almost didn’t happen because Katy’s family’s safe broke, and no one could get the ring out. Ashley thankfully managed to convince a locksmith to come to the house late at night, and after three hours of drilling, the important jewelry piece was retrieved. “I owe Ashley for introducing us, designing my engagement ring, and making sure that the proposal happened as planned!” Katy exclaims. “We had a family celebration that evening with drinks and dinner at The Wauwinet. It was a day filled with massive smiles, pure joy, and heartfelt toasts.”
Once engaged, the pair decided to wed where they met at the Field Club. “I wanted the wedding to be intimate, timeless, and elegant, filled with personal touches and flowers, reminiscent of an English summer garden,” Katy describes. “We also wanted a church ceremony, so true to my New England roots, we got married at a charming, quintessentially Connecticut church in backcountry Greenwich that is almost 200 years old—which is where my sister also got married a couple years prior.”
The bride took on the planning duties for her summer wedding, as she already knew which vendors she wanted to work with. Ashley D. Studio was the artist behind all the details and the invitation suite.
Ahead of the black tie nuptials, Katy wowed at her rehearsal dinner in a green floral Emilia Wickstead dress, as a subtle nod to Julian’s Irish heritage. She completed her look with Carolina Herrera earrings, the ASHA Pearl Flower Clutch, and Jimmy Choo heels. Julian wore a Favourbook blue linen suit. The next day, the pair hosted a welcome pickle ball party, as a way of easing into the busy weekend.
For Katy’s summer wedding day, she always knew she wanted to wear something Grace Kelly and Kate Middleton-esque. Once she tried on her Reem Acra dress, she knew it was the one. After slight customizations, like adding a beaded belt, it was truly one-of-a-kind. On the morning-of, the bride got ready in a Hill House Home slip from Over The Moon and a lace robe that Ashley had gifted her, while Audrey Mcdwyer Schaenman styled her tresses. She accessorized with custom ASHA mother of pearl and diamond earrings. “They are a forever piece that I absolutely love and have already worn since my wedding,” Katy gushes.
The bridal party complemented Katy well in soft periwinkle Needle & Thread dresses with ASHA earrings, which were gifted to them ahead of the ceremony. Ashley differed slightly in a Zimmermann dress in the same shade. Julian looked handsome in an Armani tuxedo with an Eton shirt.
On August 26, 2023, just a little more than 100 people witnessed the evening wedding of Katy and Julian. The wedding party walked down the aisle to “Wildest Dreams” by Taylor Swift, and the bride and her father followed, as “Canon in D” rang out. “Pastor Curry said a beautiful homily about the power of love, we said traditional vows, and before I knew it, it was time to kiss the bride!” Katy exclaims. After departing the church with an energetic tossing of flower petals, the newlyweds hopped in a vintage Rolls-Royce and headed to the reception.
Cocktail hour began on the terrace, looking over the tennis courts. “We wanted the music to be fun St. Tropez vibes and had a saxophonist play along to the music,” Katy recalls. Julia Amory tablecloths, wicker lanterns, and purple florals by Greenwich Orchids livened up the space.
Dinner was served in the main clubhouse, followed by petite table-side desserts and the Aux Delices Foods carrot wedding cake with cream cheese icing. And after heartfelt speeches, it was time to dance with Nuclassica from season 11 of America’s Got Talent.
Having all of the couple’s loved ones from Ireland, Germany, England, and the U.S. was one of Katy’s favorite parts of the day. “We had a lot of Irish and Cuban guests from our two families, and they brought incredible energy!” she shares. After the reception came to a formal close, friends continued to party at a bar in town. The new mister and missus made a brief appearance before retiring for the evening.
Katy and Julian celebrated their marriage with a mini-moon in Provence, followed by a larger ski trip in France and Switzerland.
