Founder of Her Namesake Eveningwear Brand Alexia María Esquer Looks Back at Her Wedding and Shares Her Dream Registry

By Sara Dial

What makes the perfect registry? Our Dream Registry series answers just that, providing an endless source of inspiration for those putting together their own Over The Moon Registries. We enlisted the help of some of our most stylish and in-the-know friends—whether they’re single, engaged, or already married. (Because we’re taking a page from Carrie Bradshaw’s playbook and saying one should be able to register for Manolos no matter what their relationship status!) Peek inside the registries of tastemakers, from editors and stylists to wedding planners and beyond. Your dream registry is just a click away.

Alexia María Esquer, the founder of her namesake luxury evening-wear brand behind the Alexia María & Caitlin Wilson for Over The Moon Capsule Collection, wed Ricardo Rubio in 2017. To celebrate her label’s second exclusive capsule with Over The Moon, she is looking back at her nuptials and sharing her Dream Registry with us.

It was love at first sight when the two met at a mutual friend’s party in San Diego one summer. And after four years together, Ricardo proposed on the Southern California coastline. “The sun was just beginning to set and we stopped on a cliff overlooking the ocean, one of our favorite spots,” Alexia says. “As we got off the vespa, I turned around and he was down on one knee. I was completely surprised.”

Once engaged, the La Jolla–based couple set the date for March 14, 2017, in her hometown of Mexicali, Mexico. And Alexia set off on creating her own ceremony look. “The very first wedding dress I ever designed was my own,” she proudly states. “I envisioned something that felt timeless and regal, yet fresh and modern. At the time, I hadn’t introduced capes into my designs, so I created a mermaid-style gown paired with a dramatic 14-foot detachable cape, adorned with delicate silk-covered buttons trailing down the back. It was ethereal, architectural, and most importantly, unapologetically me. One of my favorite details from my wedding look was a pair of custom gloves I designed, delicately embroidered with my initials in baby blue.”

Eight years after her wedding, Alexia still favors the timeless and feminine with a modern twist and shares the same approach to interiors. “To make a space feel truly mine, I often incorporate striking prints like black and white stripes or checkered patterns,” she shares. “They add a graphic punch that still feels polished.”

For her Dream Registry, Alexia favored light blue touches amongst florals, like the Veranda Plates and the SMEG Espresso Machine. “Timeless dinnerware like the Laboratorio Paravicini collection instantly elevates a table,” she says. “It’s the kind of dinnerware you’ll keep forever and bring out for every special occasion. . . And of course, I had to include an espresso machine! I’m a big coffee lover, and it’s how Ricardo and I start every morning—just the two of us, having a cup before the day begins. It’s one of our favorite rituals, so the SMEG Espresso Machine is a must on the registry for the both of us!”

Lastly, the founder emphasizes her love for personal touches in her home with the Wild Blooms Stationery. “They’re such a beautiful way to celebrate this new chapter and our shared last name,” Alexia says. “Little things like monogrammed pieces make a home feel more personal and like it belongs to both of us. They’re unique, elegant, and full of meaning.”

Alexia María leaves us with expert advice for couples creating their Over The Moon Registries: “When putting together your wedding registry, think about what fits your lifestyle and adds a sense of practical elegance to your home. It’s all about balancing those timeless, statement pieces—like artisanal dinnerware —with everyday essentials like high-quality linens or beautifully made kitchen tools. This mix not only reflects your personal style, but also offers a thoughtful range of options for your guests. It’s a great way to reflect your taste while giving your guests a range of options to choose from.”
