Like so many romances, Aritzia’s PR director Gabby Sabharwal and Sunil Murti, who runs creative services at Kargo, started out strictly platonic. “We met at a party and were really good friends for two years,” she says. “We only started dating because I was drunk one night on the dance floor at the Bowery Hotel and grabbed his face and kissed him.”
Seven years later, Sunil proposed to Gabby during a trip with her family to Half Moon Bay, California with a vintage 1920s dinner ring from Jewels By Grace, a jewelry store based in L.A. “He had been showing me all different kinds of rings until he found this one,” she says. “He’s a great Googler.”
After getting engaged, the New York-based couple couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate their wedding than in the same spot where it all began: The Bowery Hotel. “We’re doing our best to re-create that fun night out,” she explains. Working with wedding planner Tamara Stanford, the couple will transform the Bowery Hotel into an Art Deco club, decorated with shades of green, pops of white, and even a gold mirrored dance floor—what better place to recreate their first kiss?
