Set a Beautiful Table with Town & Country Senior Fashion Editor MaryKate Boylan’s Dream Registry

What makes the perfect registry? Our Dream Registry series answers just that, providing an endless source of inspiration for those putting together their own Over The Moon registries. We enlisted the help of some of our most stylish and in-the-know friends—whether they’re single, engaged, or already married. (Because we’re taking a page from Carrie Bradshaw’s playbook and saying one should be able to register for Manolos no matter what their relationship status!) Peek inside the registries of tastemakers, from editors and stylists to wedding planners and beyond. Your dream registry is just a click away.

Town & Country senior fashion editor MaryKate Boylan was another obvious choice for our Dream Registry series—and in a classic editor move, she sent us her additions via mood board. The ever-organized MaryKate currently lives in an apartment in Greenpoint and tends to “gravitate towards clean, somewhat minimal design with a bit of mid-century sprinkled in.”

She also likes to incorporate a bit of color and interesting elements here and there. “For me, decorating is a relatively slow process,” she begins. “I usually like to introduce one thing at time to see how it works in the space and then build upon that.”

For interior inspiration, MaryKate is always saving images from Giancarlo Valle, Dobrinka Salzman Gallery, and Joseph Dirand. She also loves the richness of Nulifar Gallery.

When it comes to merging styles with a significant other, the editor advises on having patience and being open to compromise. “Moving in with someone involves blending each of your aesthetics,” she says. “Even though I would love to have the final say in everything that comes into this apartment, I want my partner to also feel that he has a hand in picking things out, and hopefully, we will both be satisfied with the outcome of our shared home. When I moved in with my boyfriend last year, I found it very helpful to create a mood board for each room, so that it is was easier for him to visualize the changes I wanted to make.”

And while curating her Dream Registry, MaryKate couldn’t help but think of the china, crystal, and silver that her parents received from their wedding registry 36 years ago. “They are beautiful pieces that we use on special occasions like holidays, and it’s always very exciting when we bring them out,” she says. “To me, a registry is an opportunity to start collecting those special pieces to build a home and create memories—and, of course, to get other fun things like kitchen appliances!”

Focusing on gatherings for holidays and hour-long meals, MaryKate gravitated toward dinnerware, glassware, and linens for her Dream Registry. “I love a beautifully set table,” she assures us. The Laboratorio Paravicini Serpentine Dinner Plates caught her eye especially. “I normally go for minimal, white dinnerware, but there’s something about these plates that I just love. They’re special without feeling too fancy or feminine and will look amazing on a set table.”

Another must-have for MaryKate was the set of Rectangular Natural Placemats from Mercedes Salazar. “I hope one day soon to have enough outdoor space to entertain outside, and these placemats are the perfect base for setting a fun, colorful table.”
