Ashley Patton first crossed paths with Doug Foote at a Nashville Predators hockey game. Doug, who worked for the team at the time, scored tickets for the weekend matchup, and a mutual friend brought Ashley along. Four years later, Doug proposed at their apartment in the West Village. It was a Friday afternoon at the end of winter in 2019. Doug suggested they go up to their roof. “Safe to say I knew what was happening, given it was February in New York and he wanted to go to the roof,” Ashley remembers. When they arrived, he immediately proposed, and then the two rushed out of the cold.

Ashley and Doug celebrated their nuptials on two separate occasions. In September of 2020, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony held at the bride’s parents’ home in Nashville. In October of the following year, the bride and groom hosted a lively reception at The Farm at Old Edwards Inn in North Carolina. “I had always loved the fall and the mountains, and we absolutely fell in love with Highlands and knew immediately that would be where we would get married,” the bride shares. Jessica Sloane, brought their plans to life, and Natalie Watson captured them on camera. Melissa Broadwell arranged the florals.

For both events, Ashley wore custom Elizabeth Fillmore. “I tried on a million different dresses and ended up loving two different dresses from Elizabeth’s collection. She had the brilliant idea to put the top of one on the bottom of another,” the bride says. “I trusted her and am so glad that I did!” Ashley completed the look with pearl earrings by Completedworks and a pair of blue Jimmy Choo heels.

On September 26, 2020, Ashley and Doug wed amongst immediate family and Ashley’s maid of honor. “We held it in my parents’ living room, which because it’s a beautiful old Tudor, comes off like a chapel. The walk to the aisle was very short, but [it was] a sweet walk with my dad,” the bride shares. After the ceremony, everyone shared a meal on the patio surrounded by Amy Osaba florals. “Following dinner, a few friends stopped by for cake, toasts, and dancing—it was lovely.”

A year later, guests received a Written Word invitation to Ashley and Doug’s reception. On the day-of, Latia Curtis created Ashley’s bridal beauty look, and then she changed into her second Elizabeth Fillmore dress. Cocktail hour began in the garden under beautiful willow trees with a string quartet setting the mood. The groom dedicated a thoughtful toast to the bride, and the couple sipped from a rosé Champagne tower.

After the speeches, everyone headed indoors for a seated spread of local fare—steak, trout, and vegetables. Then, Ashley and Doug shared their first dance to “A Little Honey” by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Nightsweats. Prime Source Entertainment Group supplied the music for the revelrous evening. [It was] safe to say no one left the dance floor until the lights came on,” the bride recalls.

The party lit up when Ashley changed into a second look by Ganni—a blue mini dress accented by an array of feathers. And as a nod to how they met, the newlyweds gave out Nashville Predators foam fingers as dance floor favors. When “New York, New York,” played, it was such a scene, foam fingers and all!

After the reception, the party continued at Highlander Mountain House, which the couple hired out. “We stayed there sitting by the fire until the wee hours of the morning,” Ashley remembers. Following the celebrations, the couple jaunted off to South Africa for their honeymoon.
