The Best Celebrity Weddings of 2022: Jennifer Lopez, Alexandra Daddario, and More

By Cathleen Freedman

The 1920s had its roaring and raucous Gatsby-esque parties and events. But so far, the 2020s takes a much more nuanced approach to the art of celebrating. As couples had to think smaller for their big day, 2020 marked a new age of scaled-back micro-weddings and minimoons. 2021 continued that legacy of intimate soirees with a cautious foray into heftier guest lists. (How could we ever forget Paris Hilton and Carter Reum’s elegant Bel-Air wedding or Ivy Getty’s fantastical San Francisco party?) But 2022 bore witness to every type of wedding: quick Vegas elopements and jam-packed weekends abroad with after-parties that last till sunrise. The third year of the decade has completely flown by, but thankfully, celebrities’ Instagram accounts showcase a well-documented year of glorious weddings. If given the chance, we would have RSVP’d “Yes!” to every single one. Here are some of the stars who said “I do” in 2022—and a few of the details about the weddings we wish we attended.

AnnaSophia Robb and Trevor Paul

Under the glow of a harvest moon and all dressed in a white Danielle Frankel gown, Robb married Trevor Paul in upstate New York. “It was on the cusp of fall but with the warmth of summer still hanging in the air,” AnnaSophia Robb told Vogue. The Inness property features Scandinavian-style cabins, effectively making that weekend feel like summer camp for all of the guests. Robb and her father mesmerized guests with their father-daughter dance—a reenactment of the talent show “Canned Heat” performance Napoleon Dynamite choreographs in the 2001 film.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez

The twice-engaged couple sealed the deal in a Las Vegas chapel and then once more on Affleck’s private estate in Georgia this year. After their Vegas vows, Lopez vividly described the scene in her “On the JLo” newsletter: “Behind us, two men held hands and held each other. In front of us, a young couple who made the three-hour drive from Victorville on their daughter’s second birthday—all of us wanting the same thing—for the world to recognize us as partners and to declare our love to the world through the ancient and nearly universal symbol of marriage.”

Colin Cowie of Colin Cowie Lifestyle planned the second wedding weekend. Affleck, Lopez, and their children all donned Ralph Lauren ensembles. For the events, Lopez actually changed into three different Ralph Lauren designs—one of which showcased more than 1,000 handkerchiefs. Jay Shetty officiated the ceremony, in addition to presiding over actress Lily Collins and director Charlie McDowell’s nuptials in 2021. “Years ago, we had no idea the road ahead would mean navigating so many labyrinths and hold so many surprises, blessings, and delights,” Lopez added about the Georgia nuptials. “It all culminated in this moment, one of the most perfect of our lives. We couldn’t have been happier.”

At long last, Bennifer became Ben and Jennifer Lynn Affleck, as per JLo’s new legal name.

Here comes the bride, all dressed in Valentino white. Heiress and actress Nicola Peltz exchanged vows with Brooklyn Beckham at her family’s expansive Palm Beach estate. Her mother, model Claudia Heffner, inserted an evil eye into the folds of Peltz’s gown, and the Valentino team stitched a message in an azure thread—Peltz’s “something blue.” The mother of the groom, Victoria Beckham, wore her own designs, as did several loyal VB couture guests. Dancing the night away at reception includes a roster of Hollywood’s who’s who like Rashida Jones, Kiernan Shipka, Eva Longoria, Michael Bay, and M Night Shyamalan. Beckham and Peltz were mindful of the crisis in Ukraine and asked guests to make donations to the humanitarian agency Care.

Actor Taylor Lautner and nurse Taylor Dome enlisted Josiah Carr and Justin McGregor of Samkoma to plan their California nuptials. The auspicious numerology behind their wedding date of November 11, or rather, 11-11, signifies their fathomless love for each other. Dome and Lautner incorporated a butterfly motif throughout the event on the rolling hills of the Epoch Estate Winery and toasted to their future as Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Lautner with Casamigos cocktails.

Bachelorette contestant Wells Adams proposed to actress Sarah Hyland in the summer of 2019, but the couple decided to wait until the final season of Modern Family finished shooting to allow closure for such an important chapter in Hyland’s life before beginning a new one. Planner Mindy Weiss helped them navigate the Covid-19 wedding obstacles that soon ensued. After postponing their nuptials two separate times, Hyland and Adams finally exchanged vows at the Sunstone Vineyards in August. Jesse Tyler Ferguson served as the ceremony officiant and even kicked off the rehearsal dinner with a tender speech. The bride wore two romantic Vera Wang pieces—a silk faille sweetheart ball gown with a hand-pleated bodice and a cinched dress with draping sleeves. She specifically requested that Wang add pockets to her dress for easy access to handkerchiefs and q-tips when the tears of joy would inevitably well up.

Alexandra Daddario and Andrew Form

Actress Alexandra Daddario and producer Andrew Form know firsthand laissez les bons temps rouler in the Big Easy. Originally intending to marry in the Italian countryside, Daddario remembered a friend’s wedding in New Orleans and realized she preferred the soulful city of life, music, and love. “I planned a lot of the wedding from set, or from bed after a night shoot,” Daddario confided to Vogue, while Michelle Norwood assisted with all of the event’s logistics amidst Daddario and Form’s hectic schedules. Danielle Frankel was the obvious designer for the bride’s gown—the actress asserts that her dress “felt like it belonged in New Orleans” and could withstand the swampy June heat.

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker

In 2022 alone, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker said “I do” three times over—first in Las Vegas, then in Santa Barbara, California, and again in Italy. The first wedding in April was reportedly their “practice ceremony.” By May, the couple was legally married at home in front of their closest family and friends. Just a week later, they hosted a much larger get-together in Portofino. The bride and groom were both bedecked in Dolce & Gabbana. Barker sported a traditional double-breasted tuxedo and bow tie, while Kourtney wore a much more innovative minidress with corset binding and a veil so long, two men lifted it down the aisle behind her.

In early March, Billie Lourd and Austen Rydell hosted a wedding weekend in Cabo San Lucas, complete with a star-studded pool party. The ceremony commenced on the beach at sunset. Lourd’s custom Rodarte gown reflected the shimmering backdrop of the water—metaphorically and literally. “We decided to make the underlayer of the dress out of sequins. The underlayer of my personality is also made of sequins, so it just felt right,” Lourd cheekily told Vogue. She and her groom paid homage to her late mother, Carrie Fisher, when—”in true Carrie fashion,” as she shares—they threw glitter into the air after their first kiss as husband and wife.

Sophia Bush and Grant Hughes

Actress and activist Sophia Bush utilized her wedding to Grant Hughes as both an occasion to celebrate their love and highlight the cultural renaissance happening in the heart of Tulsa, Oklahoma. “Tulsa is a place where so much progressive justice work is happening, so much deep history has been uncovered and is at long last being honored, and so many people are building a deeply inspiring future,” Sophia shared with Vogue. The wedding weekend included tours around storied Greenwood, a welcome party at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Westhope home, and a ceremony at the Philbrook Museum of Art. Glimmering in Briony Raymond jewels, the bride wore a custom Monique Lhuillier gown that displayed local flowers native to Oklahoma, California, and Italy in honor of the couple’s backgrounds.

After marrying at City Hall in New York City, Chloë Sevigny and Siniša Mačković planned on eventually hosting a larger wedding. Of course,  Covid-19 thwarted these plans. By 2022, with the assistance of planner extraordinaire Chris Hessney of Hessney & Co, the couple finally had their grand event at the Talmadge Hill Community Church in Sevigny’s hometown of Darien, Connecticut. Her brother drove the newlyweds in a Mercedes—with Diet Coke and La Croix cans tied to the bumper—to the reception where a Grateful Dead cover band played the spring night away. The party continued into the next morning at Paul Casablanca in Manhattan.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari

In early June at their Thousand Oaks home in Los Angeles, Britney Spears and Sam Asghari exchanged vows and said “I do” while wearing custom Versace. The bride arrived in a horse-drawn carriage before entering the ten-minute ceremony with Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, fellow newlyweds Paris Hilton and Carter Reum, Kathy Hilton, Maria Menounos, Ansel Elgort, and Donatella Versace in attendance. The Princess of Pop herself sang “Stars Are Blind” at the reception and changed into three different Versace outfits. Thoroughly exhilarated and exhausted, the bride and groom left in a Rolls Royce by 10:15 p.m., as guests sent them off with a sparkler exit.

2022 was a memorable year for actor Jay Ellis: first, his film Top Gun: Maverick premiered; second, he marries model Nina Senicar in Tuscany. The Italian nuptials were a long time in the making, as the couple postponed twice, due to Covid-19. Both dressed in Dolce & Gabbana with stylist Apuje Kalu’s expertise, Senicar met her groom at the altar. The guest attire requested everyone wear earth tones for the ceremony to complement the sunset in the background as Ellis and Senicar pledged their love to each other. Guests later toasted the newlyweds with shots of Rakija, a specialty Serbian drink.

A White House wedding is the closest thing America has to a royal wedding, and it’s a privilege only 19 couples can claim—including Naomi Biden and Peter Neal. Biden told Vogue, “We’re so close to our families, so we always knew we’d get married in someone’s backyard.” That backyard just so happened to be the South Lawn. In the months leading up to the ceremony, Dr. Jill Biden and the bride-to-be would discuss wedding details during barre class and over wine nights. On November 19, 2022, Biden accessorized her high-neck Chantilly lace Ralph Lauren gown with One/Of tulle opera-length gloves and a Tyler Ellis clutch—all of which are available in the OTM shop.

Danielle Brooks and Dennis Gelin’s kicked off the new year with a wintertime wedding in Miami, Florida. Planning was seemingly straightforward—until the Omicron variant struck. Thankfully D’Concierge‘s Darryl Moore navigated the couple through the convoluted process. Brooks wore a three-looks-in-one outfit by her dear friend Christian Siriano and a flesh-toned mesh dress with custom embroidery by Alonuko. “Wearing her dress made me want to get married every day,” she says about Alonuko’s well-loved creation. While the bride and groom marched down the aisle, Broadway stars Jeremy Pope and Amber Iman sang their renditions of “A Thousand Years” and “We Will Never Break.” Brooks and Gelin then joined their guests for the Chocolate Love-themed reception.
