When Kat Tanita and Thomas Jamieson met through a mutual friend in 2015, they hit it off right away. “We talked and laughed for hours,” Kat says, reflecting on the couple’s first date in the West Village. “The timing was all wrong though, because I was actually moving to Paris a few days later for the summer, so we lost touch after that first date.”

But Thomas knew he had found someone special. “He went home and told all of his friends that he was in love,” Kat says. And when Kat moved back to New York four years later, the stars finally aligned—she was single, and Thomas was still interested. “He still had my number, and we set up a date at City Winery in the West Village on the most perfect summer night in May 2019,” Kat says. “Everything clicked, the timing was just right, and I knew he was the one that night.”

The couple dated for a year-and-a-half, before Thomas proposed during a trip to Miami in late 2020. On their second night at Soho Beach House, “a huge tropical storm was coming, so shortly before dinner, Thomas told me we should go to the beach before it rained,” Kat reflects. “He led me to the beach, and there were rose petals everywhere! He got down on one knee and proposed. It was so special and gorgeous.”

Kat and Thomas chose to have a small Nantucket wedding on June 23, 2021. “Nantucket has always had a special place in my heart,” Kat says. “I always feel at ease on the island.” And the day of the ceremony couldn’t have been more breathtaking. “The night of our wedding, there was a full moon. The entire sky was lit up by this big, beautiful moon—it was beyond breathtaking. We danced the night away under the stars.”

Kat wanted her wedding aesthetic to be “elegant, relaxed, classic, and effortless.” She worked with Tracy Taylor Ward to plan the event, and Emilie Berman from Tracy’s team flew in to assist the week of the big day.

Kat walked down the aisle in a lace Monique Lhuillier dress and did her own hair and makeup. “Try on a ton of different dresses and just have fun with the entire dress shopping experience,” the fashion blogger urges. “The corset bodice on the dress I chose was so dreamy. The lace overlay details were stunning—and I felt so comfortable in it despite it being such a dramatic dress.” The couple’s first dance was to the song Lovely Day by Bill Withers. Kat notes, “It was one of the first songs we danced to at Arthur’s Tavern in the West Village on our fifth date.”
