Lily Moore went to college with Peter Breining’s sister, Tory, and over the years, she’d spend time with his family at their house on Fishers Island. One thing led to another, and their acquaintanceship blossomed into a friendship-turned romance—with Tory’s blessing, of course.

After a year-and-a-half together, Peter proposed two days after his birthday in a floral-filled suite at The High Line Hotel in New York City. Fun fact: this particular hotel was the former home of Lily’s distant relative, writer Clement Clark Moore, who famously wrote: “Twas the night before Christmas…”

Originally wanting to wed in the Bahamas, but then realizing it would prove to be a logistical challenge for guests, the couple brought their venue search domestic and fell in love with The Gasparilla Inn & Club. They originally set the date for November 19, 2022, but one month prior to the wedding, Hurricane Ian devastated the inn. The couple pivoted and held an intimate ceremony at Christ Church in Rye, New York, instead. “Perhaps the only silver-lining here was that Lily’s late grandmother, Katherine Moore, then 94-years old, was able to attend the smaller local ceremony,” Peter explains.

The married duo still wanted their original celebration, so they worked with Gasparilla Inn—notably the director of catering, Kat Yahnke—and were able to host a wedding one week before the hotel’s official season opening on October 7, 2023. Nicole Kaney of NK Productions ran the show for the weekend, while Jacqui Cole was behind the lens.

With the locale back in place, Lily moved to the artistic direction and “was really drawn to bright greens like chartreuse and citron and especially liked how they popped in contrast against darker greens,” she shares. “This vision was brought to life by the work of our incredibly gifted stationer, Julie King, when she crafted our invitation suite. In fact, we liked Julie’s work so much that we ended up duplicating her Matisse-inspired envelope liner and used it for our bar and band backdrop during the reception.”

Months after their November 2022 wedding, Lily and Peter happily announced that they were expecting their first child. For this extra special second walk down the aisle, Lily’s look was different from the Oscar de la Renta dress she wore the year prior. A week before the wedding, she chose an elegant maternity style to meet Peter at the altar in Florida. And on the day-of, Cheyanne Clark and the James Griffith Salon made sure the bride’s beauty was perfection.

Lily’s bridesmaids worked with Over The Moon Styling to curate their looks. “Stylist Anny Choi helped them each pick the most beautiful green dresses that complemented each girl flawlessly,” the bride gushes. “The pictures of my bridesmaids are easily some of my favorites from the day, especially those taken on Banyan Street in Boca Grande!”

Peter was handome in a custom-made Ralph Lauren Purple Label white dinner jacket and trousers with Paul Stuart patent leather shoes. His groomsmen matched him and donned custom Del Toro loafers with their names engraved on the heel—a thoughtful gift from Peter.

“We held the ceremony in the temperature-controlled living room of The Gasparilla Inn—much to the pregnant bride’s delight,” Peter laughs. Tory’s sister, who introduced the couple, officiated the laid-back 15-minute vow renewal. When asked how she felt during the service, Lily says, “Pregnant. But aside from that, everything about the ceremony and the time leading up to it was completely relaxed. . .We got to wake up in the same bed that morning and spend so much of our day together which alleviated any and all stress.”

Botanica Design Studio elegantly set the ambiance of the reception with pops of chartreuse green. With their love freshly expressed, Lily and Peter had their first dance to “Best of My Love” by The Emotions. Then, ATL Groove Factory lit up the dance floor for five hours straight with ’60s and ’70s Motown hits.

Once the formal fête came to a close, the after-party began at the Pink Elephant. “It was a perfect way for everyone to wind down and is only a quick walk or golf cart ride away,” Lily says.

The couple spent the following few nights at the Gasparilla Inn and then gleefully returned to their home in Boston to convert their guest room into a nursery.
