Lindsey Burnett and Reed Coleman’s Wedding in Palm Beach

By Alexandra Macon

Lindsey Burnett, an executive director in institutional sales at Morgan Stanley, and Reed Coleman, a managing director at a hedge fund, were introduced by a mutual friend the summer after her sophomore year at the University of Virginia. “Reed was about to enter his senior year at Hamilton,” remembers Lindsey. “We were both working and living in New York City for the summer when my roommate from college, Lacy Baldwin, introduced us one night. We had one date, and the rest is history!”

The couple saw each other for five years before Reed proposed in the spring of 2008. “We were both down in Palm Beach for Easter with our families,” says Lindsey. “Reed is an incredible planner. He had quietly organized the proposal, including a romantic boat ride on the Intracoastal, followed by a surprise dinner with our entire family at a beautiful spot on the water. Unfortunately, it poured rain the entire day, so he ended up simply proposing at his family’s home. Though it wasn’t how he imagined it, I couldn’t have been happier with the purity of the moment. I was so surprised and overjoyed, and we had one of the most memorable night celebrating with family and friends.”

After the shock of the proposal had set in, Lindsey and Reed decided to get married in Florida as both of their families spend a great deal of time there. “We were excited by the idea of bringing our friends to Florida for a fun, warm-weather weekend,” explains Lindsey. “And, the Orange Garden at the Everglades Club is one of my favorite spaces for a party. It has beautiful, old-world Spanish style architecture, overlooks the water, and the roof of the room completely retracts to allow for dancing under the stars.”

For her wedding day look, Lindsey knew from the get-go that she wanted a timeless, romantic dress. “My sisters, mom, and I went to every boutique in Manhattan, and I tried on hundreds of dresses,” she remembers. “I had always been enamored with Monique Lhuillier’s lace, and I ended up finding the perfect dress by her at Mark Ingram. It was strapless, French Alencon lace with an A-line skirt. An ivory cummberbund defined my waist and covered buttons went all down the back of the gown. My makeup and hair was done at Salon Margrit. I went for a very natural look with my hair half up and simple makeup.”

The ceremony was held at Bethesda-by-the-Sea, a beautiful Episcopalian church in the heart of Palm Beach. White peonies, roses, and orchids were placed throughout, and Reverend Ralph Warren officiated. The congregation sang hymns that are near and dear to the couple, including “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling,” a song from Reed’s high school, St. Paul’s, and a soloist sang “Ave Maria.”

The reception then kicked off with cocktails on the Marble Patio of the Everglades Club. “The patio is a stunning space and like the rest of the club, designed in a Mission influenced Mediterraneans style,” explains Lindsey. “It has gorgeous arched colonnades, and bougainvillea and orchids growing all over the walls. Tea lights and lanterns were strung above the patio which gave it a very romantic feel.” Guests then moved to the Orange Garden for dinner. The centerpieces were tall silver candelabra topped with white and violet flowers, including roses, cymbidium orchids, delphinium, and anenomies. Lighted trees and candles adorned the whole room. We had a seated dinner with toasts given by the groom and best man—and then the band, Hanky Lane’s Rhythm Revue, took over. The couple got things going with Toploader’s “Dancing in the Moonlight,” and there was a crowd out on the floor for the rest of the evening. After the reception, a late night group migrated to a local bar called Michael McCarty’s. The party went into the wee hours, and then Reed and Lindsey spent the night at The Breakers before taking off for a two week honeymoon exploring Fiji and New Zeland.
