A mutual friend played matchmaker for Mackenzie Davis and Vipul Vijay Bhimani during a Florida State University home game. “The moment we met eyes, we both knew it was forever,” Mackenzie recalls.
After two years together, Vipul proposed to Mackenzie after a romantic dinner in Greece. Once engaged, the pair wanted a destination wedding, but due to the pandemic, they shifted to a private home in Rancho Sante Fe, California with a European feel and took inspiration from the classic Provençal feel of the venue for their wedding. Photographer Kurt Boomer expertly referred the couple to Dani Blasena of HauteFêtes to be their planner, and Foundry Paper Co. set the tone of the day with a wonderful invitation suite and wedding stationery.
The morning of the ceremony, the bride got ready with Triplow Beauty and then changed into her Lihi Hod dress. Bridesmaids complemented her well in gray Jenny Yoo gowns with different necklines and bouquets from Plenty of Petals. And Vipul looked handsome in a custom tuxedo, embroidered with his well-known nickname, “Dr. Delicious.”
On November 7, 2020, Mackenzie and Vipul were married in a small family wedding with lots of loud laughter, gentle tears, and music from Anthony Garcia. It also rained towards the end of the service, which caused a rainbow to appear.
Once announced as a married couple, a delicious dinner catered by The Farmhouse Catering was served in the main living room. Tables from Bright Event Rentals were beautifully set with La Tavola Fine Linens and dinnerware from Theoni.
The couple are members of several winery clubs, so pairing different wines with the various courses during dinner was important to them. For the first course, Round Pond Sauvignon Blanc 2019 was poured, followed by Moone-Tsai Corinne Cuvée Pinot Noir 2017. And the meal ended with the newlyweds cutting their chocolate wedding cake by Hey There, Cupcake.
After the meal, guests headed outside to the Town & Country tent, with lighting by Amber Event Production, for dancing with Lucky Devils Band. The new mister and missus had their first dance to “Only Everything” by Quinn Lewis, which was one of Vipul’s favorite moments of the day.
Looking back now, Mackenzie advises other couples to “trust the process. “At the end of the day, the most important thing is the person you are standing with. I thought I needed a big wedding, COVID had different plans for me, and I wouldn’t change a thing.”
