Even though Sophie Wilson and Daniel “DJ” Scott Juvan grew up in the same town of Dobbs Ferry in Westchester County, they only connected in New York City through mutual friends. “Our engagement was a complete surprise, which was exactly how I imagined it to be,” Sophie shares. After a day of exploring Block Island in Rhode Island, he proposed on a secluded beach near the North Light Lighthouse.
In New York City, the bride-to-be found her elegant dress with a wow factor at Kleinfeld. “The designer Le Spose Di Gio is a design team of two sisters based in Italy; their attention to detail and unique design made the dress feel so special,” she explains. “I fell in love with the simplicity of the satin strapless silhouette, the buttons down the back, and the dramatic yet understated bow—the dress had everything I was looking for.”
Sophie had always hoped she’d get married on Cape Cod, where she grew up summering, and Wianno Club was the venue on Nantucket Sound that captured everything they were looking for. “We were fortunate to have our bridal party and family stay at the club, which made the weekend even more special to have everyone in the same place,” she says. To help plan everything for their October wedding, the couple relied on Amanda Zimmerman, Wianno Club’s event coordinator.
On the day-of, bridesmaids got ready with Sophie and put on their Vera Wang midnight blue, A-line dresses, while she stepped into her wedding gown. And groomsmen wore matching black tuxedos with bow ties, cummerbunds, cufflinks, and personalized pocket squares, while DJ looked handsome in a custom Knot Standard ensemble with his initials monogrammed on the inside of his jacket and their wedding date sewn into the collar.
The ceremony—which, due to weather, had to be moved inside—was officiated by a family friend, Matt Fitzsimmons, who the couple worked closely with during their engagement to discuss personal aspects that they wanted to incorporate into the service. The two wrote letters explaining their love story and why they wanted to marry each other and only shared them with Matt. “To our surprise, Matt read both of our letters out loud during the ceremony, which was such a special highlight of the day,” Sophie says. And once they were announced as married, the newlyweds recessed under a tunnel of bubbles, blown by their guests.
Everyone rejoined in the main ballroom for the reception and found their seats at table named after the couple’s favorite Cape Cod beaches, illustrated by Sophie’s aunt. In the space, “we added white voile drapes to the ceiling to create warmth,” the bride explains. “The tables were set with white linens, various sized votive candles, and dark brown rattan chargers, complemented with dark brown Chiavari chairs and white hydrangea, pale pink roses and eucalyptus floral arrangements.”
Once everyone had thoroughly enjoyed the delicious seated dinner and the heartwarming toasts, it was time to hit the dance floor with their band, Flipside. The new Mr. and Mrs. had their first dance to “As” by Stevie Wonder, and when it was time to make their exit, they walked through a sparkler tunnel and headed to the after-party in the club’s Terrace Bar Room. “No one was ready for the night to end, so having the party continue on the property kept the excitement going,” Sophie says. “At this point, I was ready to change out of my wedding dress and into a fun party dress for comfort and more dancing!”
