How To Dress Your Little Ones Like Royals

By Cathleen Freedman

Saying that Princess Catherine is beloved for her style would be a royal understatement. If Princess Catherine wears an Emilia Wickstead dress, that number has minutes before selling out of stock. And, like any good stylish mother, she shares her fashion sense with her children. George, Charlotte, and Louis are always à la mode in the most dashing outfits. Your little one is obviously the petite prince (or princess) of your palace, but now, you can even dress them like the actual monarchs. We’ve found the brands and styles Princess Catherine loves to have her children wear—some of which, are on Over The Moon!

La Coqueta

For special occasions like Pippa Middleton’s 2017 wedding and Prince Louis’s 2018 christening, Princess Catherine turns to La Coqueta dresses and page boys sets for her children. Nestled in Notting Hill but proudly made in Spain, La Coqueta was established in 2013 by mother of five, Celia Muñoz. Known as Celia’s “sixth child,” La Coqueta grows with every collection of luxury children’s clothing, marrying modern traditionalism with Spanish nostalgia for the future generation of fashionistas.

Annafie

Based in London and run by mother of four Leonie von Schweinitz, Annafie was born from a desire to produce childrenswear considerately. Every piece is manufactured in small batches by skilled craftswomen in family-run factories in Madagascar. A single Annafie dress requires eight hours at minimum to make. The combination of quality and luxury has made Annafie’s clothes popular with the children of some of the world’s style icons. . . Like Prince George himself.

The George Romper

Prince George actually wore this smocked Annafie romper during his trip to Australia. Today, it’s appropriately named The George.

Marie-Chantal

Started by a royal herself, Marie-Chantal was created by the Princess of Greece and mother of five. She drew on her idyllic childhood summers when she and her sisters ran free in comfortable and beautiful outfits and recreated that look in her children’s clothing for a new generation.

Marie-Chantal has become a favorite of Princess Charlotte. She’s been seen wearing their Celina Dress while frolicking with her older brother.

In chilly England, she wore the December Cashmere Hat and Scarf Set—available on Over The Moon.

Peter Pan Collars

Sweet and darling, the Cambridge brood are no strangers to the Peter Pan collar. It’s a rather international fashion statement. Despite its British character namesake, the Peter Pan collar is a style that first emerged in Collete’s France and was later made popular by American Broadway actress Maude Adams when she wore the collar as Peter Pan in the Broadway performance. The more you know!

Jumpers

Sweaters—no, pardon our American—jumpers are a crucial part of a little royal’s wardrobe. They instantly make your prince or princess look posh and polished. Plus, these wardrobe staples can act as a coverup in case they get stains running around the playground or during lunch!

Smocking

You can’t go wrong with something smocked. This traditional embroidery technique makes for an instant heirloom piece with plenty of hand-me-down mileage. (We’re certain Prince Louis wears some of his older brother’s clothes!)
