The Bar Co-Founder Bridget Bahl’s Dream Registry is Filled With Pieces That Hold Sentimental Value

By Shayna Seid

What makes the perfect registry? Our Dream Registry series answers just that, providing an endless source of inspiration for those putting together their own Over The Moon registries. We enlisted the help of some of our most stylish and in-the-know friends—whether they’re single, engaged, or already married. (Because we’re taking a page from Carrie Bradshaw’s playbook and saying one should be able to register for Manolos no matter what their relationship status!) Peek inside the registries of tastemakers, from editors and stylists to wedding planners and beyond. Your dream registry is just a click away.

Bridget Bahl, co-founder and creative director of fashion label The Bar—which is now available on Over The Moon!—and Dr. Michael Chiodo were first connected through mutual friends, Lizzy and Ira Savetsky. Bridget knows Lizzy through the fashion and social media worlds, and Mike and Ira were in their plastic surgery residency together at New York University. “Mike and I went on a modern day blind date at Yves in Tribeca—we saw each other on IG first, obviously, and hit it off, and he’s never left me alone since,” Bridget laughs.

After dating for a little more than three years, Mike surprised Bridget with a proposal on the beach in Montauk. Five dates into their relationship, Bridget invited him on a Ralph Lauren brand trip to Gurney’s Montauk and gave the team his initials for gifting. “When we got there, they had monogrammed more things with his and her initials than you could ever imagine, and I looked like a full stalker ready to walk down the aisle and fill our house with embroidered pieces,” Bridget recalls. “We laugh about it still but had so much fun, and it is definitely where I started to fall in love. In the years to follow, we would go back to Gurney’s on summer weekends as much as we could.”

The weekend they got engaged, Bridget was on another brand trip with friends. Mike secretly planned the entire day and organized for Bridget to stop at Gurney’s, where he delighted her by getting down on one knee. The two have now been engaged for almost two years and have only seriously started planning their wedding this year, as Mike has been busy opening his practice in Dallas. They’ll say, “I do,” this August at a “landmark setting” in New York City.

The bride-to-be, who splits her time between New York and Dallas, describes her personal aesthetic as “classic, timeless, and inspired by vintage and different eras past but with a sense of playfulness.” Bridget’s friend, photographer Natalie Obradovich, helped her with the interior decoration for both the city apartment and Texas home. “She completely understands my taste, and we are both extremely decisive so it works,” Bridget states.

For her Dream Registry, Bridget aims for everything to have sentimental value. “The idea of remembering everyone who came to your wedding through the pieces you have in your home is so special to me,” she says. Natalie’s framed prints of Italy are obviously a must-add. “Her images transport you to the places she shoots and creates a special feeling.” And the Maison Margaux table linens from Bridget’s bridal shower will forever bring her back to that special time in her road to the altar.

Looking ahead, the Laboratorio Parvicini blue Italian views plates can be used and cherished for generations. “We love the idea of passing them down to our kids and grandkids one day and making them a family heirloom from our registry,” Bridget says. And after gifting the monogrammed Tricia Lowenfield ice bucket and Champagne bowl for everyone else’s wedding, it’s her turn to put her own initials on them!

The Bar Creative Director leaves us with advice for fellow engaged couples making their wedding registries for the first time: “My advice isn’t the most practical, but I think it is so sweet to pick sentimental things that you wouldn’t normally buy for yourself. It is an easy way to create future heirlooms. Plus, every time you see or use the item you will think of the person who got it for you!”
