Luxury outerwear brand Maison Atia, which specializes in faux fur, just landed on Over The Moon, and co-founder Chloe Mendel just walked down the aisle at home in Highland Park, Illinois, so who better to tap for a Dream Registry? The recent bride said, “I do,” to Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan on September 16, 2023. The couple’s two young kids were in attendance, as they both exchanged vows in custom House of Gilles looks.
Maison Atia was also incorporated in Chloe’s wedding weekend wardrobe, as she wore the Virgo dress to her Sunday brunch. “The inspiration behind Maison Atia is a blend of classic elegance with a touch of whimsy,” the co-founder shares. “Maison Atia caters to the bride seeking individuality and a love for quality. As a Virgo myself, I wanted to create a dress that embodied elegance and timelessness. The design process involved sourcing a unique tulle from a historic couture mill in Paris. I envisioned something not excessively formal but still chic and unique, and it turned out to be just perfect for the occasion.”
As for Chloe’s own personal aesthetic, she describes it as “feminine, playful, and comfortable.” She adds, “I strongly believe that confidence is the most attractive trait and don’t just adhere to one style. One night, I may want to feel a bit Victorian, goth, and spooky, and the next day, I’ll wear a printed rainbow tracksuit.”
Since Chloe, Billy, and their children live in a 1920s home, designed by architect David Adler, they’ve come to embrace its authenticity. “We fill our space with antiques, family photos, and unique items, allowing the house itself to guide our choices,” the co-founder shares. “Each piece we acquire is meant to spark conversation and reflect our individual creativity.”
For inspiration, Chloe looks to the work of Frances Elkins, Kelly Wearstler, and Suchi Reddy. “The environment you inhabit significantly influences your mental and spiritual wellbeing, so staying inspired by our surroundings is so important to me,” she shares.
Chloe leaves us with important advice for engaged couples making their registries for the first time: “My suggestion is to pick things that you will love and use time and time again—the things that you may not splurge on for yourself but secretly would love to have. A registry is the opportunity to be spoiled and have your family and friends celebrate you. Enjoy it and don’t be shy! Because when you have your next special dinner at home and use the beautiful place settings you received on your most magical day, the memories of being loved will bring you joy. They are simple reminders of love.”
