The Best Wardrobe Inspiration from NYFW Fall 2020

By Shayna Seid

New York Fashion Week is nearly over, which, for people in the fashion industry, is like seeing the light at the end of a stress-filled tunnel. For everyone else, it’s a great time to look back at the Fall 2020 collections to find inspiration for our current and future wardrobes, especially those getting married. Below are some of our favorite looks! We’ll see you in Europe for London, Milan, and Paris, next!

Rodarte Fall 2020 RTW

Wow. We love Rodarte. Last season’s look book of gowns worn by talented women (such as Maggie Rogers, Lili Reinhart, and January Jones) was such a treat, and we’re delighted that for fall, we were equally as enthralled. The designers drew inspiration from vampires of all subjects, and there were plenty of vampy dark lips walking down the aisle at St. Bartholomew’s Basilica in Manhattan to hit that theme home. The silhouettes were very ‘40s-esque with gloves and the hint of a puffed shoulder giving us dark nostalgia all around.

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2020 RTW

While it’s a given that we love ODLR’s bridal offerings, we also really adore the RTW. This season the styling was particularly inspiring—a chunky sweater with a high-low, dramatic patterned skirt? We’re here for it. We also saw a black version of the dress that Scar-Jo just graced the Oscars red carpet with. Honestly, what’s not to love?

Zimmermann Fall 2020 RTW

We always feel like a little Zimmermann in our lives is a great thing, and that’s only further confirmed by the latest collection. For fall, we’re particularly enamored with the fabrics that were chosen—they’re all anything but plain, and lots of fun. More and more designers are playing with dramatic sleeves, Nicky Zimmermann included, and we’re into it.

Carolina Herrera Fall 2020 RTW

Wes Gordon presented his latest collection on the second anniversary of him being appointed head designer at CH. “My vision for fall is ‘the grand gesture,’” he said to Vogue.com. “When I was sketching or draping, I tried to identify the essence of what made the piece special, and then I went all in. It could be a sleeve shape, embroidery, or color, but it’s quite purified.” Who doesn’t love a grand gesture more than a lady about to walk down the aisle?

Khaite Fall 2020 RTW

This season, Khaite went a bit edgier. The impeccable structure and tailoring was there, but it had a sexier twist. Brides-to-be, look at the subtle detailing that can make any look, particularly an after-party ensemble, that much more alluring.
