Fashion month is finally over, and while those working in the industry are sighing in relief, the work truly never stops. Paris Fashion Week rounds it all out, and it got off to a very rainy start. In the City of Love, we’re reminded yet again why there’s no place like Paris when it comes to fashion. The designs seem more innovative, and yet, at the same time effortless. And there’s been a good amount of wedding wardrobe inspiration, so no complaints here!
Bella Hadid Closing Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood SS20
As Gigi did for Moschino’s Spring 2020 show, Bella Hadid closed Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood in a bridal-esque off-white number that wowed the crowd. Holding a deconstructed, oversized, lace umbrella the younger Hadid wore a long-sleeved dress with exaggerated hips of years past. It was the most romantic look of the show by far.
Alexander McQueen SS20 RTW Collection
Sarah Burton’s collection felt like a calming breath of fresh air. The pieces were well-designed, but not forced, and there are so many looks that can go straight from the runway to welcome parties and rehearsal dinners. The pant suits and the coat-dress are giving us life, and the prints feel effortlessly romantic.
Johanna Ortiz SS20 RTW Collection
A favorite go-to brand for rehearsal dinners and welcome parties, Johanna Ortiz showed her latest collection in Paris, and she’s restocked our wedding wardrobe wish-list yet again. While there are plenty of looks to chose from that will do well in tropical destinations, the Colombian designer also included dresses that can be worn to any wedding venue.
Thom Browne SS20 RTW Collection
While Thom Browne’s shows are always magical to behold, this inspiration is not quite as literal as other shows at PFW. We’re in love with the pastel color palette this season, Victorian bird-cage, corset motifs, and all of the veiled looks. It truly showcases the fun of fashion.
Giambattista Valli SS20 RTW Collection
There’s a reason why so many women are drawn to Giambattista’s work for their weddings; the man can design a truly romantic dress! The floral motifs this season are so perfectly airy for spring weekend wardrobes. They’re formal enough to hold their own at rehearsal dinners, yet young and light enough to still allow a bride-to-be’s personality to shine through.
Valentino SS20 RTW Collection
With a nearly all-white and cream show start, with only pops of neon to diversify, this collection gave us all the inspiration we could’ve needed or wanted this fashion month. The true genius of this Valentino season is the details—we can draw so much out of them. There were exaggerated shoulders and sleeves, big bows, short hemlines, full skirts, feathers, and more. The finale on the runway saw jungle-inspired dresses and ended with delicate beadwork. There is enough here to fuel many full wedding wardrobes.
Lanvin SS20 RTW Collection
Lanvin began its show with wedding inspo (that cropped crape!) and kept it going throughout! Unfortunately, guests got caught in the rain and scrambled out the door before Bruno Sialelli could even make it to the end of the runway for a bow. They were given umbrellas and headphones to listen to the soundtrack, so you could say the show was . . . not ideal. But, in his collection, there are perfect “something blue” looks and mini-dresses that would be just right for welcome parties and rehearsal dinners.
Patou SS20 RTW Collection
Guillaume Henry welcomed people back to Patou for the re-birth of the Parisian label. What was presented was an adorable collection of young pieces in pastels and easy stand-alone separates. We’re particularly attached to two mini-dresses that could make for great after-party outfits. Don’t you just want to shimmy in that feather number? I know we do!
Chloé SS20 RTW Collection
With Victorian-esque style making a comeback, we’re loving the subtle nods and touches from that era in Chloé’s latest collection. While the brand is synonymous with flowing silhouettes, the two dresses we can’t stop staring at are demure, but mysterious and perfect for pre- and post-wedding activities.
Loewe SS20 RTW Collection
Jonathan Anderson’s latest showing saw crisp, white pieces with delicate florals and structure. The looks are versatile and absolutely ideal for a wedding wardrobe somewhere warm. We can’t take our eyes off of the finalé floral appliqué jumpsuit.
Isabel Marant SS20 RTW Collection
All hail Isabel Marant and the numerous white and cream mini-dress-type pieces she sent down her runway. Packing for wedding weekends in the South of France, on the Italian coast, and maybe even Ibiza is the vibe! Brides will feel effortlessly cool and chic while dancing the night away in these numbers.
Mugler SS20 RTW Collection
Mugler focused on the waist this season with a lot of corset-inspired looks, and while that is restricting, the clothes feel empowering and sultry. With cut-outs and strong shoulders, we can easily see brides embracing these powerful looks.
