Harry and Meghan’s Engagement Photographer Opens Up About Shooting the Couple

Last December, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s adorable engagement photos shot by Alexi Lubomirski were released to the world as what we can only consider an early Christmas present. Now, a few months later after those photos went viral, and just over a month before the royal wedding, the photographer behind the pics has finally opened up on what it was like to shoot the world’s most talked-about couple and the scoop is just as sweet as you would expect.

According to Lubomirski, he immediately picked up on the chemistry between the two. “When I went to meet them to see if we vibed, they were just cutesy and every time they looked at each other they were like, [giggling],” he said to Entertainment Tonight. “I was like, ‘This is gonna be great. This is gonna be easy.’ I said, ‘I just want to shoot you like this. This is what you’re like.’”

Lubomirski, who has shot Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, and Katy Perry, in the past, said working with Harry and Meghan was a breeze and quite delightful. “They were so naturally in love,” he said. During their engagement shoot, which they all agreed had to feel “relatable” and “accessible” (much like the couple, themselves), Lubomirski shares the two, who have ample experience in front of a camera, helped each other throughout. “It was wonderful to have her as a sort of coach on set. He kind of led her through and she led him through, and she just made it very nice and easy,” he says.

One surprise Lubomirski wasn’t expecting? The reaction to Meghan Markle’s couture Ralph & Russo mesh dress. (Many thought her outfit of choice was a little too revealing for a future royal.) “I was very shocked by the reaction,” said Lubomirski. “To be honest, we tried on a couple of different things and that was just one that she felt comfortable in, so we weren’t really thinking, ‘Is it nude?’ or anything. We just thought, ‘Feel comfortable and let’s make some nice pictures.’” Mission accomplished.
