Today, we’re sending some special congratulations across the pond–Kate Middleton and Prince William have welcomed their third child! The baby boy was delivered at 11:01 AM, and weighs 8lbs 7oz, according to Kensington Palace. The little prince is now fifth in line for the British throne. This means that Prince Harry, his uncle, is now sixth in line in the order of succession.

While the birth of a British prince is always a historic occasion, the arrival of this baby carries with it extra weight. In the past, any British male heir born would automatically unseat any female heirs in the English order of secession. However, thanks to a parliamentary measure passed in 2011, this is no longer the case. Therefore, Princess Charlotte is officially the first British princess to not loose her place in line for the throne, thanks to the birth younger male relative.

In the early hours of the morning, Kensington Palace first shared the news that the Duchess of Cambridge was in labor. The royal residence released a brief statement at the time which read, “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London earlier this morning in the early stages of labour. The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.”

Before the arrival of the baby was announced, Kensington Palace shared an image via Twitter of reporters lining up outside St. Mary’s Hospital. The royal residence also tweeted that, “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.”

The official residence then announced that Middleton had welcomed a baby boy. The palace also said that Prince William had been present for the birth, and that both Kate Middleton and the baby were doing well.

Prince William ultimately left the hospital briefly, to go pick up Prince George and Princess Charlotte. He arrived back at Lido Wing with his two older children, and took them inside to meet their new baby brother. Princess Charlotte adorably waved to surrounding on-lookers as she approached.

Not long after, Prince William and Kate Middleton emerged from the hospital to introduce their new son to the world. Kate Middleton wore a red dress with a white lace Peter Pan collar for the occasion, which she paired with nude heels. The parents then headed home to Kensington Palace, to get settled into their new routine. Congratulations again to the parents of three!
