Meghan Markle’s Dad Is No Longer Attending the Royal Wedding

Following months of speculation about whether Meghan Markle’s dad would walk her down the aisle, we finally have an answer just five days before the wedding—and it’s most definitely not. After initially confirming Thomas Markle would indeed be present for his daughter’s wedding to Prince Harry on Saturday, in a plot twist straight out of a Lifetime movie, those plans have been thrown out the window.

Reports this morning surfaced that Thomas Markle had staged a few photos of himself getting ready for the wedding with a paparazzo. The father of the bride is also said to have suffered a heart attack and has now decided to stay in Mexico to avoid any future embarrassment for his daughter and the royal family. (We told you it was dramatic.)

As the news broke of his absence, Kensington Palace released a statement, which read: “This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding. She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.” TBD on who will be walking Meghan down the aisle come Saturday, but we’ll keep you posted—and to be honest, we’re kind of hoping she goes it alone.
