We Can’t Stop Staring at This Chic Aristocratic Wedding in Spain

While we bide our time until Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding on Friday, we can’t stop obsessing over photos from this beautiful wedding in Spain last weekend.

On Saturday, Fernando Juan Fitz-James Stuart, a.k.a. the Duke of Huéscar, married his longtime girlfriend, Sofía Palazuelo Barroso, in Madrid. The wedding took place at Fitz-James-Stuart’s 18th-century family estate, the Liria Palace, and featured several high profile Spanish guests including Queen Sofia. The ceremony was a smaller affair, featuring 300 guests, while the reception that followed had a guest list of over 750 people!

The bride wore an elegant, short sleeved dress designed by her aunt, Teresa Palazuelo (who also happens to be a bridal designer), which featured a detachable cape and 16-foot train. Instead of wearing a traditional veil or tiara, Sofia chose to wear a Swan Lake-esque feathered headpiece designed by Teresa Briz, who was once an apprentice of hatter and British royal family favorite, Philip Treacy. Meanwhile, the groom tied the knot while wearing the Royal Cavalry Armory of Seville’s traditional military suit, which was also the exact same uniform worn by his father, Carlos Fitz-James Stuart, the Duke of Alba, on his wedding day 30 years ago.

An outdoor reception followed, where wine and beer from the family brewery, La Casa de Alba, was served. For their first dance, the newlyweds chose a traditional waltz and the celebrations reportedly lasted until 2:00 A.M.
