“The story of how we met feels almost unbelievable—a testament to fate’s twists,” Doze founder Katie Lewis says of her first meeting with Brodie Morgan. “When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I knew it would be the hardest thing I’d ever face. My life stopped that year; there was no time to plan for the future. Soon after, I joined a random support group, unsure of what to expect. That’s where I met a girl from Lincoln, Nebraska, who would change my life forever. She insisted I meet her husband’s bandmate, and little did I know that chance encounter would lead me to the best man I’ve ever known.”
In the months that followed, Katie and Brodie became each other’s closest friends. Eventually, she found herself envisioning the future again—and from the weekend they met, she knew every plan she made would include him. “I might have played hard to get, but deep down, I knew you were the one,” she read in her vows.
Two years later, Brodie proposed during Katie’s birthday weekend in Napa. He rented out the first winery they had visited together and got down on one knee. Afterward, he brought her to a local restaurant, where family and friends were waiting to celebrate with a surprise engagement party.
“We chose The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern because it was the perfect blend of California wine country with a western flair,” Katie shares. As soon as they stepped on property it set the scene for the ceremony they had in mind. Once booked, they then brought on Bash Please to lead planning, with photography by Kelly Brown and videography by Woven Light.
“I lean toward quiet luxury with hints of my California heritage and edge,” Katie says of her style. “I wanted a dress that made a statement but didn’t feel overly ‘bridal.’” She found what she was looking for in The Scarlet by Danielle Frankel—a structured silhouette softened by accordion-textured fabric and lace detailing. She wore it with diamond earrings by Sophie Bille Brahe.
For their All Hallows’ Eve Welcome Party, Katie and Brodie dressed as Romeo and Juliet from Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 adaptation—a nod to both iconic film fashion and the story’s enduring, if slightly macabre, take on soulmates. “While we were so excited for the concept of our welcome party, we were hesitant that our guests wouldn’t want to dress up,” Katie admits. “I was so excited to see that everyone went all out for the occasion. There is something extra fun about hanging out with everyone you’ve ever known in costume.”
For the reception, held at a local western bar, Katie chose a Khaite silk mini dress and suede boots by the same designer. Mellody Vere created a natural beauty look for the day. Brodie worked with High Society on a custom tuxedo which featured the couple’s wedding brand on the jacket’s interior.
On November 1, 2024, Katie and Brodie were married in the barn at Mattei’s Tavern. Working with Bella Vista Designs, they blocked out much of the natural light and filled the space with candlelight. Studio Mondine added florals that appeared to grow organically from the walls and over the fireplace.
The moment Katie walked down the aisle to Brodie, her nerves melted away. “Our ceremony was deeply emotional,” she recalls. “We wrote personal vows and had made a prior promise to each other not to write them for the crowd or make them humorous—but to write them as if we were the only two people in the room.”
The reception unfolded like an intimate dinner party among family and longtime friends. Long farm tables from Bright Event Rentals and Found were dressed in rich-toned linens and topped with velvet table lamps. Oysters were passed during cocktail hour, followed by a choice of sea bass or braised short ribs with polenta. “My dad and stepmom, who are wine collectors, curated a selection of their oldest and best bottles, placing two on each table, chosen specifically for the guests seated there,” Katie says. “We also served wine from the winery where we got engaged and selections from the Santa Ynez Valley.”
After the couple cut into their cake from Bodega Bake Shop, guests moved into the barn once again—this time reimagined as a moody lounge. Katie and Brodie shared their first dance to “For All You Give” by The Paper Kites, before everyone joined them on the dance floor as a DJ from Dart Collective took over. Later that evening, the celebration continued at Maverick’s Saloon, a local western bar, where the celebration carried on late into the night.
