Now that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have made their engagement announcement, it feels like Pippa Middleton saying “I do” was ages ago. But in reality, it wasn’t too many moons before Markle stepped out in that white wrap-coat and trinity diamond engagement ring when Kate Middleton’s younger sister was marrying her financier beau in the English countryside. Pippa and James Matthews’s nuptials was arguably the wedding of 2017, and now 2018 is set to have its own, even memorable affair.

We’ve already outlined what we can expect from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. Technically, it will be a royal wedding, but it probably won’t be quite as lavish of an event as the nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton. For one, Prince William is a direct heir to the throne, while Harry is fifth in line. And considering how clearly modern-minded he and Markle are, it’s more likely this wedding will have more similarities to Pippa Middleton’s ceremony than William and Kate’s.

Let’s start with the factors we know will be similar in both occasions. For one, Prince William and Kate Middleton will definitely attend—unless, that is, the arrival of the third royal baby coincides with Meghan Markle’s big day. But perhaps more exciting than the prospect of Kate Middleton once again donning her wedding day best is the possibility of Prince George and Princess Charlotte reprising their roles as pageboy and flower girl. The young royals made their bridal party debut during their Aunt Pippa’s wedding, so why wouldn’t they do the same when it came to Uncle Harry? What’s more, there is a long tradition of young princes and princesses serving this role in royal family weddings. Both Prince William and Prince Harry did so when they were young, as some hilarious old photos show. And considering the fact that a royal spokesperson recently said that family will be involved, it seems more likely than not that Prince George and Princess Charlotte will indeed participate.

For her own wedding, Pippa Middleton wore a high-necked lace gown with short sleeves, and a full, floor-length skirt by British designer Giles Deacon. In terms of its lace and A-line silhouette, the dress was similar to the Sarah Burton by Alexander McQueen design worn by Kate Middleton. You might think these facts imply that a partially lace ball gown is in the cards. But while Meghan Markle’s dress will certainly be modest, it seems unlikely that she would mimic these two prior brides. When it comes terms to her dress, we’d bet on a brand new look.

Pippa Middleton’s wedding took place in a countryside church, not far from her parents’ home, where the reception was held. And while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be getting married in a grander venue, St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle to be exact, it’s still a place of worship for the Church of England. Previously, there had been speculation as to whether Markle would be able to marry in the church, since she is divorced, but after the Archbishop of Canterbury’s congratulations to the couple, it’s clear that that won’t be an issue.

As for the reception, Pippa Middleton memorably celebrated her wedding under a large glass greenhouse, which was rumored to have cost over one hundred thousand pounds. Inside the structure, which sat on her parents’ property, trees with pink blossoms made for a magical, fairy tale-worthy, scene. So in terms of receptions, Pippa Middleton may have Meghan Markle beat. Traditionally, a wedding in the British Royal Family is followed by a formal luncheon, and one that likely involves a lot of handshaking. Hopefully, if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do go this route, they’ll have a more personal party later on in the evening. After all, while wedding luncheons are more common in the U.K., let’s not forget, this bride is an American woman.
