What makes the perfect registry? Our Dream Registry series answers just that, providing an endless source of inspiration for those putting together their own Over The Moon Registries. We enlisted the help of some of our most stylish and in-the-know friends—whether they’re single, engaged, or already married. (Because we’re taking a page from Carrie Bradshaw’s playbook and saying one should be able to register for Manolos no matter what their relationship status!) Peek inside the registries of tastemakers, from editors and stylists to wedding planners and beyond. Your dream registry is just a click away.

Even though Layne Povey, one third of the mother-and-daughters team behind Over The Moon Top Planner Lynden Lane Co., wed firefighter Jonathan Povey in 2012—when the Over The Moon Registry had yet to be born—she’s in constant communication with her couples and can expertly guide them on making their own wedding registries. With that said, she’s the perfect person to curate her own Dream Registry.

If you ask Layne how she met Jonathan, she’ll present two versions of the story. “We told our kids that we met in the summer at a local beach, but the truth was that it was really our second meeting,” she laughs. “Our first meeting was really at German Pub in Laguna Beach, where we could barely hear each other and spent the night dancing and yelling over the music with likely too many of those German beverages. Our best friends had recently started dating and it seemed like a natural fit to be introduced, so when they started spending the summers at the beach together, so did we.”

After two years together, Johnathan proposed at 1:00 a.m. on Christmas Day, while the two were on a vacation in Florence. “We walked out into a quiet piazza. It was almost completely empty, just a small Christmas tree glowing in the corner,” Layne reflects. “I paused to take it in, and when I turned around, Jonathan was on one knee in the snow.”

On February 4, 2012, Layne and Jonathan said, “I do,” at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, followed by a reception at the Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara. The bride wore Monique Lhuillier. “I wanted to feel like a true bride in all the ways,” Layne explains. “I wanted the corset and the skirt and the lace and extra long veil and all the things.”

Today, the Dana Point–based designer and planner describes her own aesthetic as “classic but still always inspired by trends.” She goes on to say, “We love to decorate our spaces with pieces that feel elevated but accessible. Your home is meant to be beautiful, but a place where you can live and feel comfortable. We have three kids so we are constantly remembering that everything we put in our home is going to get used and it can’t be too precious.”

For Layne’s Dream Registry, she focused on pieces for entertaining. “All of the Royal Copenhagen pieces hold a special place in our hearts. Our grandma had those pieces that were found in a basement of a house she owned in France during the war—absolutely beautiful,” she reflects. “The copper rondeau [is added] because everyone should have at least one piece of copper in their home. And the Tricia Lowenfield ice bucket is one of our most favorite items. It’s just so cheerful and inviting.”

Layne leaves us with important advice for couples making their Over The Moon Registries: “It’s easy to go super aspirational on your registry, but always remember these need to be pieces that actually feel true to you and how you will use them in your house. There is nothing worse than china that sits in a cabinet. These items are meant to be used.”
