Hawaii has long been a favorite wedding destination for Over The Moon couples, and after the devastating 2023 fires on Maui, planner Taryn Stark Wyant, who lived in the 50th State for years, brought together a group of talented vendors to showcase her reverence for the island and locals. “We titled this editorial ‘Nā Leo Aloha,’ which translates to ‘Voices of Love‘ in Hawaiian,” Taryn Stark Wyant Executive Director Danielle Sabbag explains. “The name is meant to evoke the idea that love never exists in isolation.”
Over The Moon Style Director Grace Givens was brought on to curate ceremony and reception looks for the local Hawaiian models portraying the bride and groom—who happen to be a real couple. The Lottie with its floral neck detailing and airy aesthetic was the ultimate dress to say “I do” in and was accessorized with pearl October Earrings and Clarita Bridal Block 90 heels. While the groom sported looks from Bonobos and Tommy Bahama with Birch Suede Milano Loafers. Later on, the bride’s Isabeau Floral Organza Dress—paired with Mar Earrings, Limoncello Necklace, and Carina 8 espadrilles—injected island colors and ocean inspiration into the cocktail hour and reception scenes.
Beauty stylist Lauren Shea expertly gave the bride an elevated plait for the service and let her tresses down afterward. And Stoneblossom provided a delicate bouquet to complement—and not compete with—the island’s beauty.
Wailea Beach Resort set the stage with multiple location options for photographer Sandra Aberg and videographer Backstory Wedding Films to capture the oceanside ceremony, beach portraits, lawn reception, and more. A shot inspired by a Vogue spread with Cindy Crawford even came to life with the bride standing atop a surfboard. “We chose this setting intentionally—to highlight the island’s natural beauty without overwhelming it,” Dani says. “Every decision was made in consideration of the land, its significance, and the story it holds.”
Authenticity was especially important to everyone involved in this shoot. “We hope people feel the mana—the spiritual energy of Maui—and see how powerful simplicity can be when it’s done with heart,” Dani shares. “This editorial isn’t about trends; it’s about honoring place, culture, and connection. We hope it reminds people that beauty is most meaningful when it’s rooted in truth.”
