Could There Be a Father of the Bride 3 Script Out There?

Father of the Bride

Has there ever been a more iconic wedding movie than Father of the Bride? Sure, there have been plenty of commendable films to come out in its wake—My Best Friend’s Wedding, Wedding Crashers, The Wedding Singer—but let’s face it, none of them can hold a candle to the 1991 movie by husband and wife duo, Charles and Nancy Meyers (which was a remake of the black and white classic starring Elizabeth Taylor). The film’s enduring popularity is perhaps why this week, the Internet went crazy after actor George Newbern (who will forever be known as Bryan MacKenzie) revealed to Us Weekly that there might be a script for Father of the Bride 3.

“Director Charles Shyer wrote a script. I know there’s a script out there,” Newbern said. “And there’s talk. I don’t know how far it got, but I’m sure most of the cast would be into it if the script was right.” If you recall, Father of the Bride 2 ended with Annie and Bryan moving to Boston after having a baby boy, while George and Nina welcomed a new daughter. “I have heard some [ideas about the script] and they are pretty far out there,” Newbern added. “From what I heard it was pretty good and different and newsworthy.” While the obvious plot line for Father of the Bride 3 would be for George to walk his youngest daughter down the aisle, the term “newsworthy” suggests the script won’t be as predictable as that.

Don’t get too excited just yet though! This afternoon, Nancy Meyers, took to Instagram to question the validity of Newbern’s statements. She posted a screenshot of the E! News’s account that had professed the existence of a potential third script, with the caption: “Fake news @enews? Call me George Newbern. Haven’t heard about this! A Banks Family reunion??” Hey, at least she seems open to the idea!
