A Sweet List of Shippable Wedding Cakes for Your Zoom Wedding

By Cathleen Freedman

Weddings can be canceled, postponed, and as proven by countless couples across the globe, online! In the past few months, the rules for weddings have completely changed due to COVID-19. The matrimonial ceremony status quo is no more. Couples have adjusted their expectations for their wedding day or commemorative celebration when they opt for hosting them on platforms like Zoom. Simple practices like dancing in the same room with your family and friends are tossed out like a bridal bouquet—which is another tradition that can’t happen online. But we have good news for all of these couples, you can still have your cake and eat it too!

In addition to being the (literal) sweetest part of the evening, cutting the cake is one of the first things a couple does together as newlyweds. For Zoom weddings, this poses an interesting dilemma. Where do you get a wedding cake if you can’t really leave your house? You could bake a cake, of course, but we can’t all be Ina Garten. Some couples might want the cake that symbolizes such a monumental part of their relationship to taste, well, you know, good.

Thankfully, bakeries across the globe are baking and icing as fast as they can to satisfy Zoomly-weds’ wedding cake needs. We’ve included a few of our favorites who ship nationwide (and one in the U.K.), so you can still cut the cake no matter where your wedding venue is!

Magnolia Bakery

Carrie Bradshaw loves their cupcakes, but some Magnolia fans consider their Banana Pudding to be their most iconic dessert. (Personally, I’ll take their bars any day. They even released their Key Lime Ice Box Bar recipe for you to make at home while you quarantine!) Regardless of which Magnolia Bakery dessert you and your sweetheart prefer, they ship most of their iconic treats nationwide!

Caroline’s Cakes

Based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, family-owned Caroline’s Cakes has garnered nationwide acclaim. Their cakes are some of Oprah’s all-time favorites. If it’s good enough for Oprah, it’s good enough for your Zoom wedding celebration! Made in a nut-free bakery, the bakers have a long history of making cakes for good causes. Consider us charmed, Caroline’s Cakes!

Richard Reutter of Caroline’s Cakes recommends that Zoomly-weds choose one of their buttercream cakes. “The Vanilla Buttercream will most closely mimic a traditional wedding cake and can easily be decorated with flowers for some color.”

Bettys

For those betrothed and quarantined in the U.K., we suggest Bettys. A storied cafe and tearoom, they ship and deliver their dainty cakes across the U.K. Just scrolling through their favourite desserts is a serotonin boost.

After ordering your cake shipment, don’t forget the cake topper!
