The silhouettes are much more form fitting than what we’re used to, but the design details are very much Vera. This season, the fabrics she chose (charmeuse, crepe, and silk faille) were adrift from the usual sheer tulle or lace we’ve seen before. The styles are very much in celebration of the bride’s body with so many daring leg moments; it’s hard not to feel confident with a deep slit or high-low design. Something to note is the gothic lettering on gowns, which brides will be able to customize. At the presentation, dresses had “I Do,” “Vera Wang 1989,” and “Love” adorned on them in different places. The lettering adds a touch of modernity and playfulness and is a smart move in an age when making statements is highly valued. Of course, a black dress was shown, and the only pops of color were the gloves it was accessorized with. In short, Vera Wang’s 60th collection made it clear that she still knows her brides well. The designer is aware of the fact that they’re changing and evolving, and she can go well beyond just keeping up.
