In today’s Meghan Markle update, we’ve learned the future royal bride was secretly baptized this week in preparation for her wedding on May 19th. According to the Daily Mail, Meghan was baptized and later confirmed in a small 45-minute ceremony led by the Archbishop of Canterbury at the Chapel Royal, and was accompanied by Prince Harry, Prince Charles, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

As for why Meghan needed to be baptized? Well, the actress was raised Protestant, but Prince Harry and the royal family are all Anglican. While it wasn’t necessary for Meghan to convert to an Anglican, she is said to have wanted to be baptized into the Church of England out of respect for the Queen, who is the head of the Church of England. (Good move, Meghan.) The Daily Mail also reports that Meghan had two godparents there to support her baptism, although whom she chose for these roles remains a mystery. Now she’s just one step closer to saying “I do!” Can it be May already?
