If the past year-and-a-half has taught us anything about weddings, it’s that your wedding day should be exactly how you want it to be, big or small. Micro-weddings became de rigueur in the pandemic, but even as more sizable gatherings have come back into our lives, we know there are still couples out there who would love nothing more than to run off and elope or have an intimate ceremony surrounded by their nearest and dearest. If that sounds like you, why not lean into your romantic side with a wedding in Bora Bora?

Known as a playground for the rich and famous, A-listers like Megan Fox, Justin Bieber, and Halle Berry frequently flock to French Polynesian island for holiday. “The Pearl of the Pacific,” as it’s often referred, is said to be one of the most beautiful places in the world—and was even voted the most photogenic place on Earth, thanks to its crystal clear waters, white sand, private beaches, and overwater bungalows. Not only is it a top honeymoon destination—Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were newlyweds here—it’s also a perfect choice for couples who are looking to elope. The distant location and exclusivity have kept tourist numbers low, so you too can tie the knot like a celebrity in ultra-private fashion.

If you’re engaged, the luxurious and award-winning five-star hotel, The St. Regis Bora Bora, has created two new micro-wedding packages: “The Royal Estate Villa Wedding” and “French Polynesian Wedding à Deux.” The former is fit for the couple who have a few guests present; the latter is an elopement for those who want it to be just the two of them.

The “Royal Estate Villa Wedding” includes a five-night stay in the Royal Estate Villa, which can house up to six guests—hence the name. You and your fiancé needn’t lift a finger, thanks to a personal wedding planner, professional photographer, and videographer on hand to orchestrate every last detail to perfection. Go for a sunset candlelight couples’ massage together before heading to your beachfront rehearsal dinner. The next day, brides will have a manicure and a complete beauty team at their disposal. After tying the knot, with a complimentary bouquet and boutonniere, sit down to a three-course wedding reception meal catered by Jean-Georges’s famed Lagoon restaurant, complete with a decadent caviar and Champagne bar. For entertainment, a traditional Polynesian fire dance performance followed by a sunset sail.

Looking to run off into the sunset together and elope? The “French Polynesian Wedding à Deux” will have you feeling like royalty during a five-night stay in an overwater villa. Exchange vows in a traditional French Polynesian wedding ceremony on Spa Beach, located on a romantic island in the resort’s Lagoonarium, with a view of Mount Otemanu.

Feeling adventurous? Once you’re officially wed, one spouse (traditionally the groom) boards a canoe, while the other is taken to Main Beach to meet them for a wedding celebration dance performed by Polynesian dancers and musicians. You’ll also be presented with a marriage certificate made of Tapa, a rare ancient handmade fabric from bark found on Marquises Island, which symbolizes wealth and prosperity. A priest will then hand you the special tapestry and give you Tahitian names. There are many more special experiences like these included in the “French Polynesian Wedding à Deux,” so whether you have Polynesian roots or you want a unique and respectful wedding celebration, your union will be one to remember and cherish forever.
