Megan Pinckney Rutherford of Shades of Pinck created an OTM Dream Wedding Registry right after she and Todd Rutherford—the Democratic Leader in the South Carolina House of Representatives and an attorney—wed in Charleston. More than two years later, she’s back to curate her Dream Baby Registry for her little one, Christopher Teagan Rutherford.

Born on September 23, 2021, at 5:09 a.m., Teagan arrived weighing six pounds and 12 ounces. “My husband wanted a T name, and I wanted to see my maiden name be carried on,” Megan shares. “We eventually agreed on Christopher after my maternal grandfather and Teagan for the T.”

For the toddler’s room and wardrobe, Megan wanted a soft take on “classic rugged,” she explains. “He loves planes, trains, and automobiles, but I try to keep to a muted color palette that feels more neutral instead of vibrant.”

Megan wanted practical items for everyday that are still elevated in design and concept for her Dream Baby Registry. The Baby Month Cards were a must-add. “The early months really pass so quickly,” she recalls. “Finding ways to capture those moments are so important, but finding ways to do it effortlessly is the trick.”

For a literal comfort blanket, enter ChappyWrap’s selection of cozy throws that can grow with a child for years to come. And to help cognitive progression, Megan adds special toys from Hauck. “Babies grow and change every day, so you want to constantly have things that not only entertain them but help them develop. The motor skills 3-in-1 toy is a must!!” she exclaims. The chic boy mom also advises against investing in cute outfits until the littles are at least six to nine-months-old, when they can sit up and be more out and about.

The best thing about motherhood for Megan is getting to see things through Teagan’s eyes. “It’s a very humbling process that reminds you to find joy in the smallest things,” she says. However, the most difficult part for Megan has been figuring out how to marry the person she was with the person she’s to become.

Megan leaves us with parenting advice worthy of passing on: “‘A happy childhood lasts a lifetime.’ Raising tiny humans is hard, but if what we want is to end up with adults that thrive we have to make sure their childhoods are filled with the continuous feelings of joy, love, strength, stability, and safeness.”
